Bob Wingerter
A successful handicapper should know all he can about the ability of the players on a team. He should know the coaches, their philosophy, team morale and anything else about the team that might affect it's play.
Bob Wingerter's philosophy of handicapping is serious, no-nonsense, he specializes in NFL / NCAA Football...NBA / NCAA Basketball...Major League Baseball... is back with after a 5 year retirement from offering winning selections to clients, with his vast knowledge of Football.. Basketball..Baseball. After returning in 2006, he is a DOCUMENTED award winning champion from Pro Football Weekly's National Handicappers Bowl plus many, many other awards.
Bob's GAME INSIGHT FORCASTER is not a machine or system... it is a method of handicapping that involves hard work and time. Selections are based on modern technology, long experience, discipline, an accumulation of winning edges and feel for the game. With his experience in every facet of handicapping, he knows about winning and has been doing so for over 30 years. Bob will make you a winner!
The betting line is made to create two-way action and they do a very good job, but public perception is also considered. This opens holes and opportunities and Bob exploits them. Selections will only be among the games meeting his criteria. There won’t be a bunch of statistics, trivial information, speculation and opinions that are contained in the line anyway. With the increasing infomation available from the computer, since it's inception into sports handicapping, analysis like statistics, trends, etc. have become less relevant . Let experience and insight speak for itself.
The most important part of handicapping is discipline and money management. Discipline will be reflected in the selections. Money management you must learn yourself.
Winning is directly related to your knowledge of the opposition. About 60% of all games are determined by luck or happenstance. Its the other 40% or so that separates the men from the boys.
His analogy of handicapping is that of a carpenter going to work without a hammer. A handicapper must have a bankroll.
Bob told us about a question he has been asked over the years, "should I seek help handicapping?" The answer is YES! Don't let your ego get in the way when you are risking an investment. He will be working hard along with all the handicappers on this site to ensure your success.
Quote of the week
I made a game effort to argue but two things were against me: the umpires and the rules.

There is a new head coach in Lubbock this year; former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville. Tuberville is the polar opposite of previous coach Mike Leach as Tuberville is a defensive specialist. The Red Raiders finished 9-4 under Leach last year (5-3 in the Big 12). They have a grip of starters returning, and probably the most important piece is quarterback Taylor Potts. Potts was named the starter a few weeks ago over the talented Steven Sheffield. Last season the Red Raider offense was once again towards the top of the NCAA passing ranks as Potts and Sheffield combined for 4659 yards and 36 touchdowns. All of the Red Raider’s top receivers return this season and the chemistry that was formed between them and the quarterbacks last season should help keep the passing attack flying. The Red Raiders leading rusher from a season ago, Baron Batch returns as well. He had a productive year (884 yards 14 tds) considering the Leach offense is a past first (and second and third) type offense. Six starters return on the Texas Tech defense including top tacklers from a season ago Brian Duncan and Cody Davis. The weakness of Texas Tech in the past was their defense and if Tuberville can stiffen that up and keep this offense clicking, Texas Tech could be a force in the Big 12 south. I wouldn’t expect the offense to put up quite the numbers they did last season with the added emphasis on defense but it’s not out of the question that the Red Raiders could hit double digit wins this season. June Jones is entering his third season at SMU. Last season the Mustangs went 8-5 (6-2 in CUSA) and they look like they could compete with Tulsa in the west. SMU returns an impressive 15 starters from a year ago; nine of those are on the offense including sophomore quarterback Kyle Padron. Last season Padron stepped in and threw for 1922 yards and ten touchdowns. The most impressive stat for me is that he doesn’t turn the ball over only throwing four interceptions. The Mustangs top receiver from a year ago Emmanuel Sanders is gone, but the ‘stangs have a talented group returning this season and this should help the passing game match or improve its numbers from a season ago. The biggest hole to fill offensively looks to be the one left by running back Shawnbrey McNeill. Talented freshman Darryl Fields looks to help fill that gap, and he will be accompanied by Zach Line and Braden Smith. The offensive line looks to be in good shape, and massive guard Josh Leribeus will be looking to open holes for the ground attack. Seven starters are back on defense including safety Chris Banjo. Banjo is the Mustangs leading returning tackler with 86 last season he also contributed an interception. Head coach June Jones is known for offense as he has shown pretty much everywhere he has coached. If the Mustangs defense can make some stops and they can get the ground game going with freshman Darryl Fields, SMU make a strong run for the CUSA championship. Last season SMU went 4-1 as an underdog on the road, and the Red Raiders went 1-0 as a home favorite. Texas Tech has never had much of a problem with SMU, as they have a 16-1 all time record against them. The last five matchups have been won by Tech, by an average of 34 points per game. I think the line might be about right on this one. June Jones is 2-10 on the road since coming to SMU. The Red Raiders have had no problems in the past defeating the Mustangs, and by a big number. Although this season you have a new coach in Lubbock…a defensive coach. The offense will still be good with all the talent returning at the skill positions but talk around Lubbock has been that Tuberville has pulled back on the reigns a bit and he is trying to run a more conventional ball control offense. The only problem with that is, the players there were brought in to run Leach’s air-raid offense. That being said, I think the Red Raiders have too much talent, even though there will be some growing pains with the new coach. SMU has a good team, but with the loss of their leading rusher from last season, it may take a game or two before their offense starts clicking. TAKE TEXAS TECH MINUS HERE.

Each football season a group of mysterious gentleman leap into the sports spotlight with steam and other nonsense. The speculating public, which is essentially composed of followers, clings to every word they speak, complying and following their every lead. You know the fellows. They are referred to with reverential phrases as: "Who are THEY taking?" or "Who do THEY like?"
Note: John Wall was excluded from this list because like Oklahoma's Blake Griffin last year he's clearly the premier player in college basketball. It goes without saying that he's a must-watch player as the top prospect the 2010 draft has to offer.
Evan Turner (Ohio State)
There are a lot of players who hurt their draft stock by opting to pass on the 2009 draft, but Evan Turne ... read more

Bob Wingerter Rating System
Bob doesn't believe in rating the selections. They are all of merit. Doubling up or chasing can be counterproductive in the long run. Okay, some plays handicap out stronger than others, but without records over thousands of plays, it's hard to have relative values of the plays....unless you are psychic. This is not saying that it cannot be helpful to increase your plays when going good (not one winning week) and decrease them when going bad. That is part of good money management. (SEE MONEY MANAGEMENT BELOW)
Bob Wingerter Money Management
Poor money management is the reason 90-95% of all sport bettors lose.
A good rule of thumb is to bet 2% of your bankroll on each play until it goes up 50%. Then increase your plays 50%. Do the reverse if your bankroll goes down.
Try not to risk more than 20% of your bankroll at any one time and over this amount only if you are making 10 or more plays simultaneously.
We wouldn't risk more than 18% while making 5-6 plays at a time.
If you make 1-3 plays a day, risking 10% of your gross bankroll at any one time might be safe.
If you go broke it won't be because you didn't pick winners, it will most likely be due to poor money management.
