Washington & Philadelphia under 7 The Washington Nationals host the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday in game one of a three-game set. Washington is coming off a 2-1 win over San Francisco, while Philadelphia beat Miami their last time out, 3-0. Jordan Zimmermann gets the nod for the Nationals in this one. Zimmermann has been outstanding this season, posting a 1.62 ERA with a ridiculous 0.87 WHIP. Zimmermann has made five consecutive starts in which he has thrown seven or more innings while allowing two or fewer runs. He will need to be great again as the National bats have gone cold, scoring only 1.8 runs per game over their last five. The under is 5-1 in Zimmermann’s last six starts. Philadelphia counters with Kyle Kendrick. Kendrick has a 2.82 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP on the season. While the team’s big-three starters grab all the attention, Kendrick has quietly put together a solid start to the season. The under is 9-1 in Kendrick’s last 10 starts on the road. Philadelphia lost some offensive punch on Tuesday as the team placed second baseman Chase Utley on the 15-day disabled list. Yankees vs. Rays Over 8.5 New York’s offense has been better than expected all season. The Yankees have had all kinds of guys step up and make much bigger than expected contributions. Vernon Wells, Travis Hafner, and Lyle Overbay are driving in runs in key spots. Now, Curtis Granderson is back in the lineup and hitting the ball well. The Tampa Bay Rays have been on an amazing ‘over’ run of late. The over is 19-6-2 in the Rays last 27 games overall. The over is 8-2 in their last 10 home games. Evan Longoria is hitting the ball as well as almost anyone in baseball, and the rest of the lineup has been superb. David Phelps has been a pretty good pitcher for the Yankees, but the Rays lineup that is hitting so well that I doubt he can completely shut them down. On the other side, Roberto Hernandez starts for the Rays. He isn’t consistent enough to shut down the best offenses he faces. The Yankees have had a lot of success against him in the past. The number here is set as if we have too top notch pitchers going in this one, and I don’t see these guys as dominating pitchers. Take the over.
