The 2014 MLB season is underway and everyone has the dream of winning the World Series, but there are three teams in each league with the best chance. In the NL it is the Dodgers 11/2, St. Louis 9/1, Washington 12/1 in the AL it is Detroit 8/1, NY Yankees 12/1 and Boston 15/1. Last season the Dodgers finished 92-70, but that only got them as far as the NLCS where they lost to St. Louis. The Dodgers are poised to make another run as they have the highest pay roll in baseball and the same group of stars coming back. St. Louis had an exceptional season with a 97-65 record and got to the World Series, but fell to the Red Sox in six games. St. Louis has a lot of good young pitchers who are all hard throwers and have another year under their belt of experience. Washington finished 2013 with an 86-76 record which led to them failing to make the playoffs well under expectations. This season the Nationals are the premier favorite to take the NL East which is up for grabs with Philadelphia still down, Miami rebuilding and some question marks in New York and Atlanta. Detroit finished with a 93-69 record wining AL Central, however that only got them to the ALCS where they fell to Boston in six games. Detroit has a great 1-2 punch in the top of the rotation in Verlander and last year’s Cy Young award winner Max Scherzer along with a nice back end trio to round out their rotation in Anibal Sanchez, Drew Smyly and Rick Porcello. The one interesting move they made this offseason was they traded away Prince Fielder to Texas for Ian Kinsler this move gave the Tigers a solid second basemen they have been desiring and to move Miguel Cabrera back to first which will help his longevity after a long contract extension worth around 300 million dollars. The Yankees finished 2013 with an 85-77 record and out of the playoffs after a ton of injuries up and down their roster. The last time the Yankees missed the playoffs they retooled in the offseason well this offseason was no different. This offseason the Yankees picked up Masahiro Tanaka, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brian McCann to fill three major holes as well as Carlos Beltran and get them back to the top of the list of prime teams to win it all. These six teams are sure to be in the playoff picture when the dust settles at the end of September and into the playoffs in October. St. Louis pitching is tops in the NL and it will propel them with a little clutch hitting over Washington or the Dodgers in NLCS. In the AL it will be a dog fight between Boston, the Yankees and Detroit who have both stud pitching and big bats along with some resistance out West from either Texas, LA Angels or the upstart A’s. This year the classic and best rivalry in the game will be renewed with the Yankees and Red Sox meeting in the ALCS for the first time since 2004 with the Yankees advancing in seven to meet the Cardinals in the World Series. That World Series will be a classic like many between the two most winningest clubs in baseball history. This will be the fifth time they are meeting with each winning twice and the first meeting since 1964 won by the Cardinals in 7. 2014 World Series champ will be the Yankees in six games as the bats will lead the way with Brian McCann winning the MVP and sending the Captain off into the sunset a winner just like how he came in a winner in his rookie year.
