With all the recent chattering with the Redskins saying they are going to be playing QB Kirk Cousins instead of Robert Griffin III over the last 3 games of the 2013 season. Not just being sat, but being deactivated for the last 3 games. Seems to plainly be much more than we are getting from the front of the story, of course. If he is in fact being sat for reasons of health, all right, let the kid rest, the season is shot, but I can't help but to question the real underlying reason why this is going down.

What does it attain for the Skins? They get to showcase Kirk Cousins for trade. Which I would believe is going to get them some more than decent value for them to move forward with. Cousins is certainly a competent QB, and the 24 year old has shown that he is a good pocket passer that many teams could use.

Washington lacks an awful lot on that team for this to all be thrown on RGIII. Yes has been played poorly, absolutely, has it been the let down 2nd year? Yes, he got stuck with it. Of course there will be many who feel we can look at many other kids that came out with him, but Griffin did have a pretty world-shattering injury, and I don’t believe he was ever healthy this year.

I certainly don’t think he was overrated, and was a fluke, I still believe he has a strong future in him, he was just too good last year. With accuracy and composure in his first year, he amazed people with his patience and his big play ability. And Griffin really doesn’t have much around him as far as offense. Yes Shanahan, is the miracle RB guy, we all know it, and he has struck gold again with Alfred Morris with 2640+ YD in his 1st 2 seasons for the 6th round (173rd overall) drafted RB from Florida Atlantic. So the running game is fine, but who are the WRs for Griffin? Really? Pierre Garcon? He has been tolerable overall, and Santana Moss is 34 and has no separation play anymore. And if the offense isn’t clicking they have a bad defense that has allowed over 31 ppg this season.

The 2nd year slump of course has hammered down for years on players, and it seems it was inevitable that someone would have their numbers suffer. So with him coming in not fully healed, it made sense. Defenses had more of a chance to see what his strengths were and when you are known for blazing speed when things break down, and your wheels are flattened, it takes a lot out of your affect with what you can accomplish on then field.

The Skins aren’t going to the playoffs, why not sit him, let him rest, and get himself straightened out? He is their franchise QB, this isn’t changing. What is most likely going to change is the head coach, I am more than sure of that. The biggest thing RGIII needs to do is 1st, get healthy, and then learn how to be a leader, not just on the field, but in the locker room. Show that he is the man, push passed the rest, and rise above.

RGIII will be back, I'm not writing him off yet. Let's take a look again at this next year and we'll see how a healthy RGIII responds to the adversity.
