The Miami Heat have been the main story in NBA sports as of late especially in part of their amazing win streak. Winning, currently, 27 games in a row. What does it all mean, and actually, when the dust settles, how big of a deal is it?
Firstly, it’s a huge test for the Miami Heat team as a unit. They are building an enormous amount of steam and confidence night in and night out with this streak. Their self-belief is soaring with each and every win they run up. Heading towards the playoffs with dominance like this, will notably help any team feel like more than the bully on the block, they are the shark in the water.
LeBron James has been clearly playing at such a high level of ball for so many years, but now, at 28 years old, he has mastered the game. And yes, only 28 years old, 9 years of experience behind him, and still has easily another 7-8 years ahead to control the sport. The way he is playing the game right now, he could carry numerous teams to a championship, without question. Put him on Chicago, even with Luol Deng as option 2, or Golden State with Curry and Lee, those teams are at once NBA championship contenders and probable title holders at the end. When he first joined the Heat, many felt it was LeBron James going to Dwayne Wade’s team, I believe we all have “witnessed” there is nothing further from the truth. It is absolutely James’ team, and Dwayne Wade is his partner.
The winning streak means a load, an absolute extraordinary factor. With LeBron’s talent in breaking down a defense with speed, strength, court vision, and having the fact of Wade along side him, seriously? Almost impossible to stop.
This is something that will sit in the corridors of NBA history forever. Larry, Magic, Wilt, even the ‘Almighty one’ Michael Jordan never had a streak like this. This is LeBron being LeBron, this is his thing. This will make him stand out amongst other greats.
Although disliked by many for foolish reasons they may have, the media donned ‘chosen one’ has risen to another level with this team on his broad shoulders, and is leading them to a place where no one goes.
Looking at the 72-10 record Michael Jordan put together, remarkable, it will sit in the history books as well, great feat, and with Jordan’s ego, we know he is more than proud of that. But let’s imagine the Bulls didn’t win the title that year, wouldn’t it still have been astounding?
Absolutely.
But I think a streak like this is actually more impressive than the 72 wins by the Bulls. What the Heat are doing night in and night out, winning on the road, beating the Bulls, the Knicks, the Thunder, their chance to stand out in the records.
Even if the Miami Heat in the improbable circumstance they don’t win the title, whether they take the streak down as solely theirs, fall a little short or usurp it, they would still have that beside their name. It’s still incredibly special otherwise they wouldn’t keep winning losing streaks of teams, it does mean something, and numbers mean something in sports.
How hard this is to win this many games in a row is ridiculous. Everyone is gunning for you for many reasons, reigning champs, already people want you to lose, and especially coming to their hometown. The Heat hatred, which has burned deep for far too many years, and a huge one, everyone wants to be that team to shatter the streak and put it to bed. Because then they also become a footnote in history as to who snapped the streak, who stopped the locomotive.
It has been phenomenal, that is something historical we are all watching. The Heat could have packed it in on numerous games, vs Boston, in Cleveland, vs Detroit, and they fought back tooth and nail to win those games.
You better believe the streak means something to them, and to the rest of the NBA.
The Miami Heat are really that good.
