Best NFL Matchups Of The Week: October 13-14th

The NFL season is roughly at the one-third mark for various teams. If any NFL club has established an identity, it needs to be the right one. If not, it needs to change quickly.

New Orleans Saints @ New England Patriots

This is a matchup that will garner a lot of attention throughout the NFL community. The Saints are the only unbeaten team left in the NFC, while the Patriots just suffered their first loss of the season this past weekend and know they can’t fall two games behind the Denver Broncos in the race for home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs. The big matchup in this game will be the one between New Orleans’ defense and New England’s offense. The Saints have transformed themselves on the defensive side of the ball and are playing very physically. New England, on the other hand, failed to score a touchdown this past weekend in the loss to Cincinnati. The Patriots have to bounce back and throw the ball consistently. Playing at home in this game should help them. The Patriots opened as a three-point favorite on the NFL odds.

Detroit Lions @ Cleveland Browns

This is a game in which both teams have 3-2 records, a distinct surprise given the way in which the Lions and Browns finished up in 2012. Detroit is a wobbly road team, having lost to the Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers away from home, but Cleveland has a problem at quarterback with Brian Hoyer being out for the season. Brandon Weeden will be filling in for Hoyer after losing the starting job after the first two weeks of the season. Weeden has to play well against Detroit’s defense in order for Cleveland to win.

Indianapolis Colts @ San Diego Chargers

This is a very intriguing NFL betting confrontation between the ascendant Colts and the inconsistent Chargers. San Diego has played well at home this season, beating the Dallas Cowboys while outplaying the Houston Texans for three quarters (despite falling in the end). San Diego has been up one week and down the next, so the tone needs to be set by quarterback Philip Rivers. If Rivers can throw well against the Colts’ secondary, San Diego can win this. This game is a PICK in the sportsbook.
