3 Best Midweek Events To Watch This Week

By: Wager Web     Date: Mar 13, 2014
Print Article

The coming week in the world of sports will be a week in which college basketball will remain the featured attraction. There are a few games on Thursday that will be very interesting to watch.

NCAA Basketball: Memphis Tigers vs. Connecticut Huskies (Thursday)

This is a quarterfinal, believe it or not, in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. These are both ranked teams, and when two ranked teams play, they generally meet in the semifinals or finals of conference tournaments. This is just a quarterfinal, for the right to probably face top-seeded Cincinnati in the semifinals on Friday. This will be one of the better college basketball games you’ll see on Thursday. Memphis plays this game in its own arena, so it’s not as though there will be a light crowd for this game, either.

NCAA Basketball: Purdue Boilermakers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (Thursday)

This is a game Ohio State must win in order to get into the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals versus the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday. Ohio State is the fifth seed in the Big Ten Tournament, while Purdue is the No. 12 seed. The Buckeyes got an important win against Michigan State this past Sunday, but if they were to lose to Purdue, they would undo the value of that win over the Spartans. Ohio State wants to improve its seed in the NCAA tournament by winning multiple games in this Big Ten Tournament. This makes the Purdue game significant.

NCAA Basketball: St. John’s Red Storm vs. Providence Friars (Thursday)

This game is a quarterfinal in the Big East Tournament, with St. John’s being the fifth seed and Providence being the fourth seed. These teams are very similar in their place in the standings, and they’re also very similar in terms of how good they are. The winner of this game will still have a chance to make the NCAA tournament. The loser will very likely be out of the NCAA tournament and will go to the NIT. The winner of this game gets a chance to play top-seeded Villanova (in all probability) in the Big East Tournament semifinals on Friday.
