After the recent explosion by Step Curry against the New York Knicks, in the palace of hoops, at Madison Square Garden, for 54 points, including going 11-13 from behind the arc. It leaves many inquiring more than enough about the Warriors as a team.
Unfortunately for Golden State, they lost the game 109-105, behind Carmelo Anthony and his quiet 35. Although Tyson Chandler, to me, was the valid reason behind their win with his 16 pts, and 28 boards, but it does put a lot out there to think about as far as Golden State goes. Where do they stand in the Western Conference? Currently they are sitting insecurely in the 6th seed, and eying up a playoff run, which is to be anticipated. The West doesn’t have a cluster of strong teams in the race.
But for a team that has not been a real competitor, it looks as if it’s going in a route that is looking up and beyond. But they are showing many fans, they are a team to not be taken lightly.
Firstly, they have Steph Curry, a dynamite guard, who is known for his amazing shooting ability and his clean defense. He plays hard and is the catalyst behind the team. Knocking down jumpers from all over the court, and an awesome 46% from 3, give him an inch he will take 2 yards, there is no team out there, who will roll the dice and leave him open.
Guaranteed.
Under valued, David Lee, a scorer and an excellent rebounding guy with a smooth southpaw shot, can crash the boards, is in and out every night. The team doesn’t run through him, and is still 2nd on the team putting in 19 ppg. He is above proficient to say the least.
And the other guy, who is sliding along ignored, is their other guard, Jarrett Jack. He may not be big name, or the young up and comer, but he gives them foundation, and puts up 13 a game, along with good shooting, and high-quality ball movement.
Mark Jackson has the Warriors in a fine place right now. Their biggest problem as of present is their defense, where they give up a stack of shots, and can’t guard the deep ball very well. Teams get tons of shots outside and hit them hard on the offensive glass against them, and that won’t cut it as a team that is trying to bring some fear to the NBA courts when they show up. They are entertaining to watch, no question, because they can score the ball in heaps.
Dropping 101 a game this season, and shooting 46% for the team, they have no issues putting the ball in the can, but they need to stop opponents from doing it the same way. They play a fast paced style, which hasn’t worked in the past for other high scoring teams. Once they get themselves an improved defense system, maybe even add a young defending SF, a Moe Harkless-type player to tighten things up, then, I believe the Golden State Warriors will bring some stress to teams when they come to your town.
The Warriors have a young, talented team with a bright future on the scope. With everything they have going for them, they are most swiftly on the right pathway for a nice stretch in the NBA very quickly.
