The Best Ohio Sports Teams to Bet On

Figure 1 There are a umber of professional and college teams to follow in Ohio

Ohio is not a state you might immediately think of when it comes to sports. Teams from other more media friendly locations tend to attract the headlines for some reason. But there are some very good, championship-winning teams and schools in the Buckeye state.

That means that there may well be some good value prices to be found when it comes to Ohio sports betting. All the major sports are represented and some of the schools are leaders in their field as well. So, who should you be considering when it comes to betting on Ohio teams? Read on to find out.

Super Bowl LVI has just been and gone – with a representative from Ohio just coming up short from registering a shock win. There were not many people at the beginning of the season – even Bengals fans – that truly believed Cincinnati would make it all the way to the Super Bowl. But Joe Burrow has got something going at this organization.

The Bengals would definitely seem to be a better bet next season than the Cleveland Browns. Baker Mayfield just doesn’t control the game in the same as Burrow – and Odell Beckham Jr. winning a ring with the Rams after jumping ship from the Browns seems to sum up the chances of a Super Bowl triumph for Cleveland.

At the time of writing it is still a little unclear as to when the Major League Baseball season will actually begin due to the lockout. But probably the most interesting Ohio-related baseball news is that there will be a new name featured on the highlights reels this year.

The newly rebranded Cleveland Guardians will be largely the same as the previous team and will be desperate just to return to the playoffs after missing out last year alongside the Cincinnati Reds. Both teams have tough divisional rivals and might find it difficult making the postseason. But the Guardians probably are the better bet here.

The Cavs are Ohio’s only NBA team and it is no surprise that the most successful seasons in the organizations history have been when a certain LeBron James was suiting up in Cleveland. There was only one NBA Finals triumph, in 2016, but for a while the Cavaliers were one of the best teams in the league.

Things haven’t been quite as good since LeBron left town again for Los Angeles. His personal honors list has extended but Cleveland hasn’t made the postseason since then and has not even managed to finish higher than fourth in the division. This season has been better though – and the Cavs should make the playoffs. But that might be as good as it gets.

Figure 2 Cleveland has not had that much to celebrate over the years

College Sports

When it comes to sports betting in Ohio there is no way that you can forget about NCAA competitions. Both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bearcats have enjoyed success in both basketball and football. But there have not been any national championships for a while now.

Traditionally, Ohio State is the big name when it comes to college football but disappointed last season, with the Bearcats overcoming the odds to make it to win their conference before losing to Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Bearcats have also fared better in basketball in recent years, so it might be worth taking a closer look at Cincinnati when it comes to college sports at the moment.

Other Sports

Ohio is also represented in hockey and soccer – both in Columbus. The Blue Jackets are a relatively new franchise and have yet to win a Stanley Cup. That doesn’t look like changing any time soon, although a good run might be able to lead to a postseason berth this year.

The Columbus Crew has been more successful in MLS. It won the championship in 2020 but then failed to make the playoffs last year. The chances of success in 2022 seem remote – but the triumph two years ago was just as unpredictable.
