To quote Forrest Gump, “Mama says stupid is as stupid does.” Texas A&M might as well insert their right foot into their own grave if they are really considering moving to the SEC. From the all recent hysteria in the Big XII conference, from Nebraska leaving for the Big 10, to Colorado heading west for the Pac-10. But, the one rubbing most teams the wrong way was UT signing a huge deal with ESPN to create the Longhorn network. The Aggie football program has been on the rise the last few years and they feel they were just shot through the heart with the news that UT is officially becoming a Super Power. Sounds to me like the angry 5 year old is throwing a temper tantrum because he just lost his 8th game of Candy Land in a row. A&M has always taken a backseat to UT and OU, and over the past 10 years they were shedding what spotlight they had to teams like Texas Tech and Oklahoma State, and I understand their frustration. But don’t compromise the integrity of your entire football program over a rash decision while you’re angry. They will always have winnable games facing teams like Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas, and K-State. That’s moving from a conference where a 7-5 or 6-6 record is considered a “down year”, compared to the SEC where they’d be praying to go 3-9 or 4-8. If they moved to the SEC they would join the West to play, get ready for it, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, Ole’ Miss and Mississippi State. You kidding me, that’s 1-5, AT BEST. Arkansas and Auburn will both slightly be rebuilding this year, but every single one of those teams seem to have coaches who aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Not to mention, Mississippi State is a team on the rise, A&M could easily not win a game in their own conference sub-division. Add in the fact they’d probably still be playing a non-conference game with UT every year and the Ags should have their reasons on staying put where they’re at. What A&M doesn’t understand is that the SEC would chew them up and spit them out in a heartbeat. Think of what the SEC would gain from the addition. They’d be gaining recruiting accessibility in Texas, and increasing ratings from adding 2 major TV markets, Houston and Dallas, where the majority of A&M’s alumni are. With conference networks soon to become an even bigger deal, those are 2 huge markets they’d love to add. If you’re the SEC I think it’s a homerun, but if you’re A&M it sounds like you’re willingly signing your name to your own demise. As much as I’m knocking on them, A&M looks to have their most successful season in 15 years. They’re going to contend for the Big XII Title and have a legitimate shot at the National Championship. That’s a statement that A&M can guarantee never to make again if they wish to join the SEC. Hey guys, I finished in the Top 5 of College Football Cappers last year, going 12-6 with Top Plays. We're only 2 weeks away from making another run this fall, get ready.
