Sunday Night MLB Preview (Angels at Rangers)
April 7, 2013
by Steve Merril It's an AL West showdown on Sunday Night Baseball as the Rangers host the Angels. Yu Better Believe It Yu Darvish makes his second start of the season as he tries to top the one hitter he threw against the Astros this past Tuesday. Darvish was magnificent against the Astros although performances like that will probably be the norm against Houston's weak-hitting lineup. Now he takes a step-up in class against the Angels whom he faced six times last season. Darvish allowed 19 runs in those six games with 48 strikeouts. The righty actually had more struggles against Los Angeles at home where he had one of his worst starts of the season back on August 1st. Darvish allowed 7 runs on four hits and six walks in just five innings in that game which turned into an 11-10 victory. Dream Weaver Jered Weaver got a no-decision in his last start despite giving up only 1 run and two hits in six innings at Cincinnati on Monday. His problem was the first three innings where he threw 63 pitches and the reason why he couldn't go deep into the game. Weaver is not the biggest fan of pitching in Arlington posting a 6.48 ERA in his three starts there last year. Most of that damage came in one outing back on May 13th when he allowed 8 runs and 10 hits in just over three innings. He beat the Rangers on September 28th in Arlington after giving up only 2 runs and five hits in seven innings. Injury Report The injury reports for these two teams are relatively clean. The Angels are without Ryan Madson who is recovering from Tommy John surgery. He'll be big for their bullpen when he returns. Texas has a few key names that aren't available right now including pitchers Colby Lewis, Joakim Soria, and Neftali Feliz who is expected to be out until early August due to ligament transplant surgery. The former Royals' closer, Soria, hopes to be back by late May after undergoing his own Tommy John surgery. Finally, Lewis also had elbow surgery and hopes to be back by late May. Trends
