Houston Rockets
The Rockets have had their ups and downs over the past two weeks. Houston jumped into the #6 seed last week after winning four consecutive games, all on the road. But after their triumphant trip, the Rockets lost six straight games and have since gone just 1-7 SU over the past eight games, including blowing a 13-point lead at Miami on Sunday against a Heat squad that was playing without Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The Rockets' have officially been eliminated from the playoff race.
Los Angeles Lakers
Kobe Bryant finally returned to the court this week after missing seven straight games for the Lakers with a bruised tendon in his left shin. The Lakers went a solid 5-2 SU (4-3 ATS) without Bryant in the lineup. Los Angeles has since gone 1-1 SU/ATS in the past two games since Bryant returned which included a 97-121 blowout loss at San Antonio and a 114-106 home overtime win versus Oklahoma City. However, the Lakers will likely be without Metta World Peace (aka Ron Artest) in the near future as he was ejected on Sunday for a cheap shot elbow to the head of Oklahoma City's James Harden.
Memphis Grizzlies
This is an under the radar team coming down the stretch; the Grizzlies are 14-4 SU over their last 18 games going into their Tuesday night home game versus Cleveland. The team almost lost center Marc Gasol to an injured his knee in their 88-75 loss at New Orleans last week, but Gasol managed to stay in the lineup since then, although he has been playing fewer minutes and has scored just 4, 6, 8, and 12 points in the past four games with only 3, 3, 4, and 4 rebounds, compared to the 14.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg he averages this season. Despite their strong straight-up record and current 14-4 SU run, Memphis hasn’t been covering pointspreads as the Grizzlies are just 9-9 ATS over their last 18 games, including an awful 1-6 ATS run in their past seven games.
New York Knicks
It’s pretty amazing that the New York Knicks own a winning record (34-30 SU) heading into their final two regular season games against the Clippers and Bobcats. The Knicks have been through a tumultuous season with the resignation of Mike D’Antoni in mid-March, and the myriad of injuries to their best players like Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire, and Jeremy Lin. Of that trio, Anthony and Stoudemire have returned to the court; Lin had knee surgery and is most likely lost until next year. Carmelo Anthony leads the team in scoring (22.7 ppg) and third in rebounding (6.3 rpg), while Amar'e Stoudemire is second on the team in scoring (17.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg). Stoudemire returned to the lineup last Friday night against the Cavaliers. However, the Knicks suffered another injury blow as Tyson Chandler missed Sunday's game against Atlanta and is questionable for Wednesday's game versus the against the Clippers. Chandler is averaging 11.3 points per game and he leads the squad with 10.0 rebounds per game.
