Mike Handzelek's NFL Week 9 Analysis/Review/Quick Notes

Sunday, November 05, 2023 Chicago Bears vs. New Orleans Saints (NFL) 1:00 PM EST New Orleans Saints Premium Pick YouWager Play Title: Mike's NFL Sunday Earlybird Play Selected: Point Spread: -9.5/-115 Rating: 6* (WIN ) +600 Analysis: It's a very tough Sunday to gauge after the trade deadline earlier this week along with a bevy of injuries to key personnel. Yes, the Chicago bears DID pick up DE Montez Sweat at the latest Washington Commanders' fire sale. 22-year veteran DC Alan Williams with his 4-3 scheme attempts to resurrect a "D" that ranks a distant 27th in scoring "D" (27 PPG) & a near-last 30th versus the pass (262 YPG), 30th in defensive YPP (Yards Per Point) @ 12.5 & LAST (32nd) in defensive sack rate (3.4% of dropbacks). Adding to the mix is another disadvantage in turnover ratio with Da Bears chiming in @ -4 while the Mardi Gras'ers post in @ a +3. Chicago is ALSO in a scheduling disadvantage since this is their 2nd STRAIGHT away game on a run of 4 roadies in a 5-game span. History ALSO shows the "Old Ditka Drillers" have lost 7 STRAIGHT versus HC Dennis Allen's New Orleans coming by a 11-pt. average defeat. These same Monsters of the Midway are giving up around 30 PPG in road contests this season (1-3 SU-winning in Washington 40-20) & are now taking on a looking back in form QB in Derek Carr (whose a DOME QB) who was 20-for-29 last week for 350 passing yards in a offense that generated 511 total yards. He now has an arsenal of playmakers that include dual-threat RB Alvin Kamara (320 yards rushing, 228 yards receiving & 3 total TD's), WR Michael Thomas (439 receiving yards, 1 TD), leading WR Chris Olave (44 catches for 517 yards & 1 TD) & under the radar/undrafted free agent WR out of Weber State Rashid Shaheed (479 yards receiving & 3 TD's). The Bears have a tall task in getting to Carr (1st QB to have 3 straight 300+ yds. passing-1st since Drew Brees did it in 15'-16') before he distributes the ball & stretches the field since they have S Jaquan Brisker out with a concussion, MLB Tremaine Edmonds out with a knee injury & DB Terrell Smith also being out with an illness. My bottom line looks AGAIN to play against the "rookie on the road" in Tyson Bagent making his 2nd career road start. We had the Chargers against him last Sunday night when he threw 2 interceptions in a 30-13 loss. Bagent goes up against the 5th-best overall defense in the NFL under the direction of DC Joe Woods. Woods' passing "D" also ranks a high 8th & should make things uncomfortable on the rookie after NOW having game film to analyze his weaknesses. The Saints are 6-2 ITS this season & have figured out how to incorporate Taysom Hill in the offense when they're in the red zone. Crunching the numbers reveal NO is a take-me-to-the-window 19-7-1 ATS versus the NFC North & a un-prevailing 1-7 versus the number as travelling pups the last 8. The last time these 2 met was in the NFC Wild Card in 20' when New Orleans crushed Chicago 21-9. Remember, this is STILL a Bears' squad under Matt Eberflus that's gone a no-show 5-20 SU since the start of last season. Da Bears ALSO have a HOME prime-timer on deck this Thursday with Carolina. It's kind of like BRIDGE WEEK (Week 9 in a 17-game season) so let's go to Caesars Superdome in Louisiana to play 6 Stars on the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (buying to - 2 1/2 @ -375) as my 6Star NFL Sunday Earlybird! Quick Notes: Let's go rock n-rolling into Week 10 with a look @ the way the playoffs are shaping up in each conference. If the regular season standings would end this week, the shocking seedings would be as follows: AFC #1 Kansas City Chiefs -Bye, #7 Cincinnati Bengals @ #2 Baltimore Ravens, #6 Cleveland Browns @ #3 Jacksonville Jaguars & #5 Pittsburgh Steelers @ #4 Miami Dolphins NFC #1 Philadelphia Eagles -Bye, #7 Minnesota Vikings @ #2 Detroit Lions, #6 Dallas Cowboys @ #3 San Francisco 49ers & #5 Seattle Seahawks @ #4 New Orleans Saints.
