Mike Handzelek's CFB Week 1 Analysis/Review

Saturday, September 02, 2023 Texas San Antonio vs. Houston (NCAAF) - 7:00 PM EDT Premium Pick Pick: Point Spread: -2/100 Texas San Antonio Rating: 9* Mike's CFB Week 1 Strongest Play On The Board (WIN) Here's my 1st CFB pick of the season where we're still getting that feel the 1st few weeks. There's more than just a few reasons why UTSA is the right side here. Yeah, the home team is a perfect 0-3 SU in their 3 previous meeting of this series. But I feel Houston's inexperience shows with just 12 returning starters combined on both sides if the ball. Besides losing their QB (Clayton Tune), 2 top WR's & 5 of their best tacklers on "D" to graduation/or the pros, I don't feel the addition of Texas Tech transfer QB Donovan Smith scares too many coaches on the Roadrunners' sideline. Plus, Dana Holgersen (5th season, 27-20 here included being a super-shabby 5-14 ATS on home turf in Houston) doesn't scare me as a HC either. He'll be breaking in new Co-OC Eman Naghavi with him still calling plays. On the flip side of that, it's lucky much more brighter & dominant. Let's enter 7th-year & conference MVP QB Frank Harris (holds 30 school records) whose been doing nothing but winning for HC Jeff Traylor (30-10 overall in his 4th season now & off back-to-back conference championships in the American Athletic Conference). UTSA posted a combined 23-5 record the past 2 seasons. Harris had an impressive 59-15 TD/INT ratio in those seasons collectively. Another added boost to compliment Harris is TB Kevorian Barnes is back after averaging 6.3 yards per carry last season. Let's not forget the big ADDED revenge factor on our side as Houston invaded the Alamodome last season & left after outlasting UTSA 37-35 in 3 OT's. It's early in the CFB season so that's why this isn't a 10 Star but nevertheless there's a team & a number I'm very confident we'll be cashing in on. Also a factor is the Cougars also will be stepping it up this season in their 1st season in the Big 12 Conference & will be entertaining National Championship Finalist T.C.U. in just 2 weeks. Let's get ready to jet into TDECU Stadium to play the University of Texas San-Antonio ROADRUNNERS (buying to a key + 3 1/2) as my 9 Star CFB Week 1 Strongest Play On The Board! 2023-24 CFB Overall Record: 1-0 for 100%
