MLB Betting Tips: 3 Ways to Stay Focused on the Long Run

Betting on Major League Baseball is totally different than betting on any other sport. There are no point spreads and the season lasts longer than any other season. While this may not seem like a big deal, the truth is it means you need to have a different game plan.

Far too many bettors place too much emphasis on short-term results, and that can lead to a lot of pain when betting on a sport like baseball. If ever there was a sport where you truly must grind it out over the course of the season, baseball is the one.

How do you stay focused on the long run? Here are three ways to stay focused on the long run and help yourself have a successful and less stressful baseball season.

1. Keep your Wager Size Down- It might sound fun or gutsy to risk 15 or 20 percent of your bankroll on one game that you are “sure” of winning. You might get away with it once or twice, but those who continually bet too much on any one game are almost sure to end up behind in the long run. These are the same people who always end up chasing and losing more and more during the dog days of summer. Slow and steady wins the race, so don’t try to be a hero.

2. Look for Spots to Fade Public Favorites- There are a few teams each year that are always overpriced because people just love betting on them. Fading them can be a great way to win in the long run. When is the best time to fade these public favorites? Weekend games or nationally televised games tend to get more public bets that will drive the line up, so those are probably your best chances of getting a good value going against them.

3. Don’t Have Too Much Action in Any One Day- This isn’t college hoops season where there could be 100 games on a single day. There won’t be more than 15 games to pick from, so there shouldn’t be any reason for a bettor to have 10 or 12 MLB bets in one day. Be more selective with your picks and limit your risks.

Remember, this is a six month long season and you can’t grind out a season long profit in a single week. Don’t deviate from your plan, and keep the three tips above in mind as your navigate through the season!
