#6 Cali Cat (3/1) Win & Place


Five out of the eight entries have never won a race without Lasix. However, this does not apply to Cali Cat. Cali Cat's highest Equibase Speed Figure in 2025 is 95, which is quite competitive for California-bred three-year-olds at this level. The horse that narrowly beat him in the John Shear Stakes, Supersonic Blue, is today's third choice in the Paradise Creek Stakes at Belmont. The race is run at 1 1/8 miles on turf, a distance that often favors horses with both stamina and a turn of foot. He's run an 82-speed figure as a two-year-old in winning his second career start to break his maiden. Juan Hernandez chose Cali Cat over Style Cat. Cali Cat has been first or second in five career starts on the turf. He certainly checks all the boxes for me as the 3/1 second choice.
