Jeff's 2019-20 NHL Eastern Conference Spotlight Team: Carolina Hurricanes (2018-19 record: 46-29-7, 99 points)


I really like the Florida Panthers as well. They were my Eastern Conference Spotlight team last year and I would expect them to be really good with new head coach Joel Quenneville running the show. Back to the Hurricanes. They are loaded on offense and defense. Look for their special teams to be much improved which should allow Carolina go deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs. With another year in Rod Brind'Amour's system, this team has a chance to go all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Don't forget, the Hurricanes were ranked #1 in shot differential (by a wide margin) in 2017-18 and 2018-19. The Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup after ranking #1 two years in a row. Barring a major injury, I would expect the Hurricanes to surpass their season point total of 95 rather easily. I also love the Hurricanes (+400) to win the Metropolitan over the Washington Capitals (+300) and Pittsburgh Penguins (+425).
