While the scoreboard tells us who won and lost, it is important to look inside the game to see if there were any misleading final scores. We break down Week 5 in college football here.

UCF 47 East Carolina 29

Make it three straight games for the Pirates which played better than the final score showed. East Carolina outgained the Knights 521-373 but was done in by five turnovers including one interception that was returned for a touchdown. Additionally, the Knights returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Miami Florida 35 Georgia Tech 21

Miami won by two touchdowns despite getting outgained by the Yellow Jackets 361-355. Georgia Tech committed three turnovers including a pair of fumbles on consecutive drives inside its own 20-yard line that were returned for touchdowns. Also, Miami was just 1-7 on third down conversions.

Virginia 34 Duke 20

Duke won the yardage battle 430-416 and had nine more first downs but committed six turnovers including five interceptions. The Cavaliers had a seven-point lead late in the fourth but recovered a fumble for a touchdown that sealed the game. In total, 21 points were scored by Virginia from turnovers.

Ohio 17 Miami Ohio 7

Ohio had just 197 yards of total offense and while holding onto a late three-point lead, the Bobcats fell onto a fumble in the endzone for the final margin. In total, the RedHawks committed four turnovers including another fumble inside its own 20-yard line that led to a field goal.

Louisiana Tech 28 UTEP 7

The Miners lost by 21 points but had the total yardage advantage 415-387. UTEP had two turnovers and while those did not do any scoring damage, six of their nine drives went into Bulldogs territory, including four inside the 22-yard line but they could come up with just score.

South Alabama 42 San Diego St. 24

The Aztecs were outgained by only 15 yards but had two costly turnovers. They fumbled at the South Alabama nine-yard line in the first half and then down 11 in the fourth quarter and driving, they fumbled again and it was returned for a touchdown. Also, they turned it over on downs at their own three-yard line that led to another touchdown.

Wyoming 38 Colorado St. 17

The Cowboys picked up the 21-point win despite being outgained 481-434. The Rams had two turnovers, missed a field goal and turned the ball over on downs in Wyoming territory. One of those turnovers was a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
