Take the Nationals
Rotation #974
Washington is the sharper side today because the Nationals enter this matchup with a surging offense, a stable starter, and far better current form than a Toronto team turning to a 42-year-old Max Scherzer who hasn’t been effective or healthy all season. CJ Abrams is the hottest hitter in baseball — .567 with seven homers and 14 RBIs over his past seven games — and he’s not alone, with James Wood launching 30 homers and Brady House adding immediate impact after being called up. That level of young, explosive production is a nightmare for any pitcher, let alone Scherzer, who carries a 10.23 ERA, multiple IL stints, and only 56 rehab-start pitches under his belt. Washington also has the steadier mound option in Andrew Alvarez, who’s been inconsistent but nowhere near Scherzer’s volatility, and he faces a Blue Jays lineup that just dropped a series and sits 5.5 games out of the wild card with little momentum. Toronto’s offense has been sporadic, and their road form hasn’t matched Washington’s recent surge, especially after the Nats took two of three from Arizona. With the Nationals playing confident baseball and their stars peaking at the perfect time, Washington has the matchup advantages, lineup momentum, and pitching stability to beat Toronto tonight.
