Free Sports Game Preview and Prediction: Texas vs. Tennessee
Tennessee's freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon has handled his early responsibilities well. He threw for 178 yards and accounted for two touchdowns against Kennesaw State after displaying even more scoring production against Furman, but to be fair these results came against very manageable competition. Running back DeSean Bishop has also supplied explosiveness, including 162 all-purpose yards in Tennessee's road win over Georgia Tech. With that said, this is an SEC squad relying on a talented but inexperienced-QB, and that concerns us for the Vols heading into conference play.
The attraction here is that the market has corrected for Texas' lack of dominant ATS results. The Longhorns were originally laying roughly a touchdown and are now around -5.5, which is a much healthier number. Tennessee's young offense has impressed, but this is the best defensive speed and pass rush Brandon has seen. If Texas avoids turnovers and forces Tennessee into long-yardage situations, I think its defense creates the margin.

Play: Point Spread: -4.5/-115 Texas
Texas is 3-0 despite the offense still feeling somewhat incomplete, which speaks to the strength of the defense. The Longhorns held UTSA without a touchdown in a 30-6 victory, and the defense has repeatedly kept games under control while the offense finds its rhythm. We give a lot of respect to Texas testing themselves in the nonconference against the likes of Ohio State & two of the better group of 6 teams with blowout wins coming over Texas State & UTSA. Arch Manning has plenty of high-level weapons around him, although Texas needs more consistency in sustaining drives. Anchored by one of the better defenses in the country we like Texas to continue to show progress throughout the regular season.
