For this free game winner, I want to talk about the Rangers/Red Sox matchup today. As far as Texas goes guys, I think many of us felt prior to the season starting, they would be a force in the American League. One thing I don’t think many of us forecasted, is that they would be holding first place in the AL West for a while now. Granted, Houston is just 2.0 games behind them, but the Rangers have really played solid baseball all season. As far as Boston goes, what can you say about them. Some people look at them and say, “well, they’re in last place in their division.” But the American League East is the most competitive division in baseball as all five teams sport winning records. Looking at the history between these two teams, the Red Sox have dominated. They have taken eight of the last 10 overall meetings, and in Fenway, 19 of the last 26. The Rangers took the series-opener, and the Red Sox took a Game 2 yesterday. Today’s match up in my opinion is all about the pitching. Ex-Boston hurler, Nathan Eovaldi takes the mound for Texas against his former team. He goes up against Kutter Crawford. Eovaldi knows the Red Sox very well. He spent 4 1/2 years with them, playing a major part of their 2018 World Series win. This season, the right-hander is 10-3 with a 2.64 ERA, which includes an astounding road record of 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA. He has made seven lifetime appearances against his old team, which includes six starts. He is a perfect 3-0 against them. The Rangers right-hander is 3-4 with a 3.92 ERA on the campaign. He’s only back in the rotation as a starter about a month now as the team is just 2-4 in those outings. And at home, his numbers are absolutely deplorable… 0-1 with a whopping ERA of 5.40. Now guys, I am fully aware Boston is a little hotter right now. But they’ve dropped four of the last five at home. That, Fenway advantage ain’t as solid as it once was. I just think today’s matchup is all about the starting pitching and I really like Eovaldi here. He loves, and I mean loves, taking it to his former team. Take the Rangers folks, it’s a winner.
