Saturday’s FREE WINNER: Milwaukee Brewers.
Game 906.
4:10 PM PST/7:10 PM EST.
With over a week into the regular season, the National League team, with the best overall record is not the Dodgers, the Padres, the Cardinals, the Braves, or even the Mets. The Brewers, at 6-1 possess the best overall record in the NL. With yesterday’s Game 1 victory over the division rival, Cardinals, Milwaukee has extended their hot streak to six-games, while handing St. Louis, their fourth consecutive defeat. These two teams are predicted to be slugging it out (no pun intended) for the NL Central crown. So, getting another victory here today would go along way for the team. The Brewers are doing it both on the mound and at the plate. They rank second in the Majors with a Team ERA of 2.32. They also rank second overall, accounting for over 6.00 runs per game. As a matter fact, on both sides of the field, most of their statistics rank them in the top-10. On the other hand, The Cardinals are struggling. And while the Team BA is one of the best in baseball, they were accounting for just 4.14 runs per game, which ranks them 20th. Like an NFL offense which piles up yards, but can’t cross the goal line, this team is in trouble. But it has been their pitching taking the situation from bad to worse. They are 23rd in the Majors with a Team ERA of 5.23. The pitching, both starting and relieving has been deplorable. Jordan Montgomery and Eric Lauer are scheduled starters today. The St. Louis left-hander is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA. Over his career, Montgomery is 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA in three starts against the Brewers. But this is his first ever turn at American Family Field. The Milwaukee left-hander is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA. A season ago he faced the Cardinals three times, going 1-1 with a 5.29 ERA. He gave up the long ball four times in those starts. The way St. Louis has been scoring, I don’t think he’s in too much trouble here today. And when he gets pulled, the Brewers bullpen has been outstanding. Milwaukee has won four straight at home, four of the last five versus the NL Central, and four of the last five versus left-handed starters. Take the Brewers. Thank you.
