Today we start off a new week by crushing the books on both the diamond and the hardwood. I have my first MLB DOUBLE PLAY release of the campaign as well as my INTERLEAGUE GAME OF THE WEEK. Game 956. 5:40 PM PST/8:40 PM EST. Colorado has certainly have had their way with Pittsburgh, taking five of the last six meetings played at home and seven of the last 10 overall meetings. Granted, this team is in a little bit of a slump, dropping five consecutive outings entering this series. However, it is the pitching matchup that really compels me to side with the home team here. Rich Hill takes the mound on the road for the Pirates. The left-hander is 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA this season. Over his career in seven starts against the Rockies, he is a dismal 1-4 with a 5.68 ERA. Taking the hill at home is Kyle Freeland. The left-hander is off to a wonderful start, going 2-0 with an anemic ERA of 0.96. He has made seven career starts against Pittsburgh, going 3-2 with a 3.75 ERA. In 18.2 innings pitched thus far in 2023, Freeland has allowed just two earned runs. He has pitched quite well to say the least. Pittsburgh has lost four consecutive outings against the NL West. Meanwhile, Colorado has won four of their last five games played at home versus left-handed starters. Take the Rockies. Thank you.
