Play: Point Spread: +2.5/-110 Phoenix Mercury
Phoenix and Golden State meet up for the 2nd time in history on Monday. The Golden State Valkyries scored over 100 points for the first time in franchise history in their 104-102 loss to the Aces in Las Vegas on Saturday. The Valkyries had five players in double figures, led by Janelle Salaün and Tiffany Hayes who scored 16 points each. Despite the offensive success, Golden State has lost 3 out of their last 4.
The Phoenix Mercury are in second place in the Western Conference with a 14-6 record. They've added veteran DeWanna Bonner who wanted out of Indiana. The 37 year old had flashes of her old self in her debut with the Mercury when they beat Minnesota 79-71. Bonner logged a season high 26 minutes with 7 points and 6 rebounds. All-Star forward Satou Sabally is averaging a team-high 19.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Alyssa Thomas is also doing her thing. The Mercury like to drain 3s, ranking 2nd in 3s made and 4th in attempts.
The Valkyries score 103.3 points per 100 possessions which ranks 10th in the WNBA. Golden State makes up for it with a high 3 point % and I'm not sure they can rely on that facing a stout veteran team in the Mercury.
The Mercury are on a solid run right now, going 8-2 in their last 10 and 7-3 against the spread.
Phoenix destroyed the Valkyries in their only meeting, winning 86-77. They were 6.5 favorites in that game. Phoenix is the deeper team and they are playing really good basketball right.
Surprised to see the Mercury lined as the underdog as I have them as the favorite in this match-up. Take the Mercury with the points or straight up.
Mercury +2
