Free Sports Game Preview and Prediction: New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Sunday, December 14, 2025 1:00 PM
Play: Point Spread: +13/-120 New York Jets
Jacksonville looks more like a slightly above-average or even middle-of-the-pack team that grades around 19th or 20th once schedule and turnover luck are factored in. They also benefit from playing in the AFC South, which remains one of the weaker divisions in the league, so their win-loss record is inflated by facing soft quarterbacks, limited passing games, and several backup-caliber offenses. That combination of weak schedule and some turnover and field-position luck is why Jacksonville can look like a “lucky” division leader rather than a true top-10 power. For the Jets, the key is that their defense is still good enough at all three levels to make Jacksonville work for points and force long drives instead of explosives. I'm not going to read a ton into the surging Miami offense having a lot of success against them. Expect the Jets four man rush to have some success and force Lawrence into check downs and shorter throws. On offense, the Jets are clearly limited, but the bar here is low: they do not need to light up the scoreboard, just sustain enough drives to avoid quick three-and-outs, protect field position, and finish a red zone trip or two. Jets special teams is also a positive in this game. Jets obviously want to run the ball a lot and use a lot of short throws that can run clock. Scheme-wise, both defenses prefer to rush with four and play split-safety or match-zone looks that take away quick explosives and force longer drives, which points to a slower, more methodical game on both sides. Jacksonville certainly wins more often than not, but I don't think building margin is going to be easy. Expect this game to play out closer than the line indicates. Take the Jets to cover.
