Get on my HOT STREAK & GET RICH! Friday’s FREE WINNER: Marquette Golden Eagles. Game 786. 4:25 PM PST/7:25 PM EST. Free Play winner, Marquette Golden Eagles. With all respect to Richard Pitino and the New Mexico Lobos, I just don't feel they have what it takes to compete in this matchup. Yes, New Mexico finished the top-team in the MWC, sporting an overall record of 26-7. But outside of an early-November eight-point win as a 4.5-point underdog over UCLA, this team really just doesn't face the same level of competition on a regular basis. They got crushed by Pitino’s fathers team two weeks later, Saint John's, 85-71. Yes, I'm aware the Golden Eagles lost all three of their matchups against that same Big East opponent this season. But let's face it, the way the Red Storm played all season, very few teams got the better of them. The Lobos are also point spread poison, failing to cover seven of their last nine overall games. If you look at Marquette’s nonconference schedule, they took down just about everybody they went up against with authority. They also had some pretty early big-name opponents they beat as well, like the Terrapins, Boilermakers, Bulldogs and Badgers. They do play in a more-physical conference against a superior level of competition as well. Donovan Dent is a monster player. The guard averages over 20.6-points per game, and is the focal point of the New Mexico offense. But Marquette has four double-digit scorers, and their own superstar guard in Kam Jones, who averages just under 20-points per game. This team is loaded with upperclassmen, and experience, and possess a defense that would frustrate almost any opponent in the nation. I just feel they've got too much, and are too deep for Pitino’s squad. Take the Golden Eagles.
