Game 914.

The American League Central seems to be a three-horse race; Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals, and Minnesota Twins. But I think it is safe to say we are seeing a trend or even a pattern, my friends. Cleveland has taken a 5.0-game lead in the Division, at 40-20, winning seven of their last 10 games. Just behind them in second place is Kansas City, which has dropped seven of their last 10. And 2.5 games behind them is Minnesota, also struggling a bit, losing two in a row and splitting out there last 10 outings. Game 2 of this series was postponed yesterday. But I want to talk about the series=opener that took place on Tuesday. Seth Lugo entered the game with a 9-1 record with a 1.72 ERA, and was up 5-0 through 3.1 innings. What happened next showed me just how good the Guardians are. The Cleveland lineup exploded in the fourth inning for three runs and then again for five more in the seventh. And that's how the game finished, 8-5, Guardians victory. Winning is one thing. But coming from behind to win is an entirely different story, and Cleveland has been finding new and improved ways to succeed this season. They are accounting for over 5.10 runs per game, and possesses a pitching staff that has been extremely consistent and overall damned tough. Kansas City, has some impressive statistics as well. They rank in the top 10, both in Scoring and in Team ERA. Right now, they are struggling a bit. I said it before and I will say it again, I feel baseball is the trendiest and streakiest of all the major sports. You go against the team that is losing and stay with the team that is winning. And FYI, the Royals are just 14-16 on the road this season, while the Guardians are an astounding, 21-7 at home. All those reasons would be enough for me to side with Cleveland here. However, I do like the pitching matchup as well. Brady Singer and Tanner Bibee are scheduled. There's no denying the Royals right-hander has been impressive this season, going 4-2 with a 2.63 ERA. But the Guardians right-hander has been equally impressive, and gets much more run support. Overall, he is 4-1 with a 3.74 ERA on the campaign. While his home ERA is a little bit higher than he would like, over his last three outings overall he is 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA. The team has won 10 of his 11 starts this season, including his last five turns. The big differences here are momentum and the Cleveland lineup. Take the Guardians. Thank you.
