At first glance, the line in this matchup might just tell you to lean on the underdog. And I’m here to tell you, look at this game deeper, and you’ll go the favorite. I understand that overall Illinois owns the number three defense in the nation, allowing 12.5-points per game. But their last two games, which by the way, were both losses straight up and against the spread. In both games, their defense got plowed by Michigan State and Purdue for a combined 54-points. Now they must face a Michigan offense accounting for 41.4-points per game. The Wolverines come in here ranked third in the polls, are only one of four undefeated teams left in college football. Georgia and Ohio State rank one and two, and TCU ranks just behind them at number four. Now they have a showdown with Ohio State next week that will decide quite a bit guys…quite a bit. Now I doubt the Buckeyes are going to lose to the Terrapins this weekend. And yes, I understand this is a big point spread. And Michigan only has to win this game…not cover. But I don’t see them letting their foot off the gas here. You know Illinois doesn’t have the greatest offense. And this week they face a good defense. Not just a good defense, but the nation’s top scoring defense, as the Wolverines yield just 11.2-points per game. The Fighting Illini are a rushing team. Well…they have to face the number one “D” in college football against the rush. The Wolverines haven’t allowed a single opponent to post more than 17-points since late-September. Their defense is so good it gets offenses off the field quickly. And their offense can run the ball with such efficiency that opponents’ defenses get tired and come to second-half, can be exploited. I think that’s going to be the case here this week. The Wolverines seem to turn it up this time of year, going 5-0-1 ATS the last six in November, 3-1-1 ATS the last five at home, and 12-3-1 ATS the last 16 in the conference. Lay the points with Michigan.
