With the Minnesota Twins just over their shoulder starting to surge, the Detroit Tigers need every victory they can get right now. The Tigers currently sit atop the American League Central with a 6.0-game cushion over the Twins. Just behind Minnesota, at 7.0 games back is the Cleveland Guardians, and just behind them at 8.0-games back, is the Kansas City Royals. As I mentioned the moment ago, the Tigers really need every victory they can get right now. What better team to face than the Kansas City Royals. Detroit has taken eight of the last 10 meetings against their division rival, which does include four of five matchups this season. They took the series opener yesterday by a score of 7-5. That victory extended their win streak to five consecutive games. Meanwhile, that defeat gave the Royals their sixth loss over their last nine contests. Detroit possesses better numbers both at the plate and on the mound. This is a team that ranks in the top five in both of those categories. Kansas City, who does have a solid pitching stiff, ranks 28th in scoring. Their lineup has been nonexistent for most of the season. To make matters worse for them, they must face Tarik Skubal today. The left-hander owns a 5-2 mark, with a 2.49 ERA. The team has won his last six turns. Michael Wacha takes the hill at home. The right-hander is 3-4 with a 3.21 ERA on the campaign. He comes off his poorest outing of the season, giving up four earned runs on seven hits in a 5-4 loss on the road at Minnesota seven days ago. Too many factors prompt us to take the visitor here.
