Being a defending National League Pennant Champion isn’t easy. The Phillies had an incredible campaign a season ago. Obviously, it’s tough to maintain the same level of play. And with the new rule changes this year, you can expect some growing pains. And at 8-11 right now, Philadelphia is certainly undergoing a bit of a tough time so far. They are certainly in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. But don’t fret Philly fans, I do expect them to fare well. There’s a lot of talent on this team. As far as growing pains goes, let’s face it, Colorado was never expected to be a competitor for the Pennant. They currently sit in last place in the West at 5-14, which by the way is the worst record in the NL right now. We know that at home they usually play ok. But when they travel things turn sour for the Rockies. However, 3-7 at Coors Field is pretty bad. One thing we’ve come to expect, is a rotten road record. And guys they don’t disappoint again this season, as they are 2-7 as a guest. They are riding the worst current slide in baseball, dropping eight straight outings. A season ago, they faced Philadelphia seven times, taking the first three meetings, all played at home. And then dropped the last four meetings all played on the road. Put a pin in that. Now, today’s schedule starters are Ryan Feltner and Matt Strahm. The Rockies right-hander is off to a “rocky” start, no pun intended. He is 0-2 with an 8.78 ERA. And over his career against Philadelphia, in two starts, he is 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA. The Phillies left-hander has looked sharp. He possesses a 1-1 mark with a 2.13 ERA this season. Against Colorado in 13 career games, which includes two starts, He is just 1-2 with ERA of 5.60. But he seems to be much stronger looking in 2023. During their current losing streak, Colorado has been outscored, 64-24. And let’s face it, they haven’t scored more than three runs over their last six outings. At the plate, they are slumping. And their pitching has been absolutely deplorable. Either way I don’t think they have what it takes to contend here this matchup. By the way they are 7-19 their last 26 games played versus the NL East. While Philadelphia has not just taken four of their last five versus the NL West, they’ve also taken 23 of their last 33 at home. Take the Phillies here on the run line. Just a reminder folks, during Philadelphia’s current five-game win streak over Colorado, not a single game was won by less than three runs. Take the Phillies on the run line folks. Thank you.
