Both the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Guardians are in similar situations. Both are playing approximately .500 baseball, and both are in need of victories right now. The Reds sit in fourth place in the NL Central, while the Guardian sit in third place in the AL Central. It's true, Cincinnati took all three meetings with Cleveland this season, approximately three weeks ago, at home. But something changes when the Reds travel, as they are just 15-17 away from home this season, and enter today’s away game dropping three of their last four, and five of their last eight as a visitor. The Guardians enter today's matchup splitting their last 10 contests. Statistically, both on the mound, and at the plate, their numbers aren't as good as their opponent here. But I think things are going to change with today's pitching matchups. Miley and Ortiz are slated. The Cincinnati left-hander is 0-0 with a whopping ERA of 18.00. Five days ago, he was shelled for four earned runs in just 2.0 innings pitched at home against the Milwaukee Brewers. Over his career, in 10 starts against Cleveland, he is 3-4, with a 3.51 ERA. The Guardians right-hander is 3-6, with a 4.02 ERA on the campaign. But in five career appearances, which includes four starts against the Reds, he is 1-1, with a 2.05 ERA. He comes off a very respectable road win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday, allowing just three hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings pitched, fanning seven batters. He has not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last six appearances. Take Cleveland. Thank you.
