We have watched the news and read the columns surrounding the New York Mets underachieving this year, particularly because they have such a high payroll. And to be quite honest my friends, it's true. The reports are all true. They have a very big payroll and yet they sit in fourth place in the NL East at 24-33. But good news Mets fans, we are still about six weeks away from All-Star Break. This gives this team time to turn things around a little bit before the second half of the campaign. They have taken Games 1 and 2 of this series over the Arizona Diamondbacks to further their domination of them, now winning nine of the last 10 meetings in this NL rivalry. Speaking of Arizona, they are currently riding the worst slide in the National League, going winless over their last five outings. While Arizona has shown some strength at the plate this season, very simply they're pitching staff is deplorable. They rank 25th, with a Team ERA of 4.35. It seems that every single game, no matter what they do offensively, it can't be enough to compensate for their atrocious pitching. Just over their current six-game losing streak, they've been outscored, 26-15. Speaking of pitching, Slade Cecconi and Sean Manaea are scheduled here today. The Diamondbacks right-hander, who was recalled from Triple-A about five weeks ago, is 1-4 with a 6.12 ERA this season. Over his last three outings, he is 0-2 with a 7.31 ERA. My friends, he's gotten shelled quite a bit already. The Mets left-hander is 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in 2024, and over his career in 11 games, which does include eight starts against the D-Backs, he is 4-2 with a 3.42 ERA. For New York, there is a real sense of urgency to start stepping up their game. And what better way to begin a winning tradition than to face a team they have dominated, a team that has struggled, and a team they've already taken the first two games of this series over. Take New York. Thank you.
