College Hoops: What are the Weaknesses of the Top Title Contenders?

The calendar is about to turn to March. You know what that means, March Madness is almost here. College basketball is on center stage right now, and as someone who loves college basketball it truly is a great time of the year. Now is the time of the year where everyone starts trying to figure out who can cut down the nets. I wanted to take a look at the weaknesses of several of the top title contenders as we head into the month of March. Keep in mind, all of these teams have far more strengths than weaknesses, and we'll have to be a bit nitpicky here.

Kentucky- They are obviously unbeaten for a reason, and this team is the massive favorite to cut down the nets this year. What's their weakness? Kentucky could be hurt by their lack of tight games against elite competition. The SEC is a terrific conference in football, but this isn't a good basketball conference. Kentucky could get tripped up because they haven't been in enough battles late in the game.

Wisconsin- The Badgers are a terrific offensive team. They are at the top of the charts in terms of offensive efficiency. I do worry a bit about their decline on the defensive end. Bo Ryan's teams have typically been among the best in the nation in field goal percentage defense, and this group has been surprisingly mediocre on defense at times.

Duke- The Blue Devils have an amazing starting five, but they definitely lack depth. Only seven guys see the floor on a regular basis. You never know when someone is going to get injured and you need the next man to step up, and Duke will be in a lot of trouble if a guy like Tyus Jones or Jahlil Okafor goes down.

Virginia- The injury bug has hurt Virginia's team chemistry. Tony Bennett's a great coach, and this team will be a tough out, but they still aren't quite as good on the offensive end as most of the other top teams. Will Justin Anderson be 100 percent when he comes back? If he isn't, the Cavs won't go all the way.

Gonzaga- See Kentucky above. I really like this Gonzaga team, but they certainly don't get tested in a way that the other teams on this list do. The Bulldogs play in a weak West Coast Conference, and since their non-conference schedule ended they haven't been tested on many occasions.

Arizona- Arizona has slipped up on the road against mediocre teams a couple times too much for my liking. The Wildcats are going to have to win away from home in the tournament, and that's a question mark for this team.

Villanova- The Wildcats have been really solid this year, but in their losses it has been turnovers that have cost them. Sometimes their big men get a little lackadaisical with the basketball. The Wildcats have to take care of the basketball to make a deep run.
