College Football Preview: Team Totals

Print Article

Fall is approaching and College Football is amongst us. We had two undefeated teams meet for the National Championship last year in Oregon and Auburn, and TCU remained unscathed through their Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin. That being said, I don’t see too many teams going undefeated this year. I don’t think there’s a clear cut Champion this year and it looks to be pretty wide open. Most experts have Alabama and OU squaring off for the Title. I do agree with Alabama but OU is not as a big of a shoe-in as everybody has them. I’ve got Nebraska meeting Bama for the Crown. Here’s a look at some team Totals.

Nebraska Over 9.5 Wins. The Huskers couldn’t have picked a better year to bail on the Big XII and make their transition to the Big 10. Their first 3 games of the season are all non-conference and at home. They’ll open with mighty Chattanooga, then face Fresno, and then host a Jake Locker-less Washington team, and off that ugly Holiday Bowl loss to the Huskies you know Polini is going to have that game circled. They lucked on who they got at home in conference play. Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa, and Northwestern will all make their maiden voyages to Lincoln. Their 2 toughest road tests are going to be in Madison and Happy Valley. Having said that, Penn State does not pose a real threat. Wisconsin could be tough, but they’re off a dream season/Rose Bowl appearance. Nebraska’s other road games will be at Wyoming, Minnesota, and Michigan. They’re not dropping any of those. Other than the Wisconsin game, I give the Husks a great chance to run the table. Even if they do drop that Wisconsin game, they’ll have another free W in the first ever Big 10 Championship game to pad their record to 12-1 or possibly 13-0.With a very favorable schedule I’ve got the Husks going to the Big Dance this year.

Boise State Over 10.5 Wins. Not a lot of science being applied here. Boise plays nobody all year other than their opener in Atlanta for Georgia and TCU at home in mid-November. TCU lost QB Andy Dalton and should have some growing pains offensively this year. I just don’t see them going into Boise and leaving with a W. They're one game that remains a question mark is Air Force, but that game is in Boise as well. Even if they drop that Georgia game, which I don’t think they’ll do, they can still make it over that 10.5.

TCU Under 9 Wins. Andy Dalton was a vital part of this Gary Patterson team. The Frogs are definitely going to have their struggles offensively to start the year. They open this weekend with Baylor and nobody is giving the Bears a chance, but they could easily be upset and start the year 0-1. Don’t get me wrong they should still be an elite defensive team, but your defense is only as good as the amount of rest they get, and with offensive struggles that defense could be wearing thin in a lot these games come the 2nd half. Take the Frogs Under at 9.

WVU Over 9.5 Wins. Dana Holgorson has arrived and the new Mike Leach era is underway. Holgorson was Leach’s right hand man, as Offensive Coordinator at Texas Tech from 2000-2007. He then went to U of H and put the Cougars on the map. They hadn’t been relevant in nearly 20 years. Then he upgraded to Oklahoma State. The Cowboys had their best offensive year in school history, putting up 430 yards a game. Now, he’s in Morgantown and he’s got a lot of athletic talent to work with. It’s not exactly like WVU has the toughest of schedules playing in the Big East. They do have a HUGE non-conference game with LSU. But the good news is that game is at home and with LSU’s off-field issues who knows what will be going on with the QB. West Virginia could be destroying teams this year. That conference has never seen anything like a Mike Leach offense, teams are gonna get blindsided this year. Take the Mountaineers over the 9.5 Wins.

Hey guys, I finished in the Top 5 of College Football Cappers last fall and currently in the Top 3 for 2011. Got a BIG opening weekend coming up. Don’t miss out on making some money during everybody’s favorite time of year.
