College Football Preview: Five Undervalued Teams

A profitable season of college football betting is all about finding value on a weekly basis. Some handicappers believe it is wise to stay away from making any wagers the first couple weeks of the year, but I don’t agree. I think the beginning of the season is a good time to use the hours of homework you have done over the summer to give you the edge over the books.

Not all undervalued teams are created equal. Just because a team is undervalued doesn’t necessarily mean they are good. At the same time, some teams that are very successful are continually underrated by the oddsmakers. The truth is it shouldn’t really matter what type of team they are to the average sports bettor. The goal is to find a team that will make you money, and an undervalued team can help you do just that. Here is a look at five undervalued teams to keep an eye on at the beginning of the season this year.

5. Northwestern- If Dan Persa stays healthy, the Wildcats could be much more difficult to beat than most think. Persa is one of the best players that most people have never heard of. Pat Fitzgerald always gets this team to play hard.

4. Georgia Tech- This is the case of a team that most expect to be way down, but I think they’ll be better than most are expecting. Paul Johnson’s system is extremely difficult to stop, and the ACC isn’t a very strong conference. The Yellow Jackets are likely to have quite a bit of value this season.

3. Wisconsin- The Badgers were terrific last year, and I think they have a solid chance of being even better this year. Russell Wilson is a game changer at quarterback and the Badgers have the best tandem of running backs in the country. Who will stop this offense on a consistent basis? If the defense is decent, Wisconsin could be a top five team.

2. USC- The Trojans didn’t perform all that well last season, but with all the clouds over the program that wasn’t a surprise. The books are pretty low on USC going into this year, but this team still has a ton of talent. Matt Barkley should have a huge season, and I think USC will win more than most believe.

1. South Carolina- Spurrier’s team broke out a bit last year, and they should be even better this year. The SEC East is there for the taking once again. Lattimore will be even better this year (he is a legitimate Heisman contender), and this offense should be very tough to stop. It wouldn’t shock me if the Gamecocks stay in the National Championship picture for a while.

I’m 82-59 in the last two college football seasons! Only a couple weeks away from the start of another season. Let’s make it a profitable one once again!
