Team 1: Florida State
Team 2: Oregon
Team 3: Baylor
Team 4: Wisconsin
I like to be a contrarian and I know this is gonna sound like a reach but my bold prediction is that the SEC won't be represented in this year's maiden College Football Playoff. It's not because the SEC isn't good this year, it's just that, they're too good and they're gonna beat up on each other and I just don't see a two loss team getting into this year's Playoff. The conference was decimated at the QB position in the offseason with most of the best teams losing their QB to the NFL. Texas A&M, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama to name a few. And even if any of these SEC teams do make it to the Final Four, none of them are gonna have the offensive fire power of a Baylor, Oregon or Florida State. The Seminoles was the easiest of the Four to call simply due to their easy schedule. If they can dodge the Oklahoma State bullet Week 1, which I do, their schedule isn't too daunting. They'll get the Irish and the Gators at home in Tallahassee, and that doesn't hurt. As crazy as it sounds the Irish aren't a bad bet to reach the Final Four and they're fat at 60-1 for the Title, because if they do pull the upset of the Seminoles their odds drop without having a Conference Championship game. It's the second year of Chip Kelly's departure from Oregon and new Head Coach Mark Helfrich should have any easier time after transitioning last year. Yes, we all know how talented Oregon is on offense but what nobody is talking about is how good their defense is gonna be. Folks are expecting a drop off with the departure of Nick Aliotti at defensive coordinator and having just five returning starters. This team is stacked with depth and will have no problem with their replacements. If Wisconsin can pull the upset of LSU in Week 1, they can set it to cruise control until the Big 10 Championship. Even if they lose to LSU they still can beat Michigan State or Ohio State for the Big 10 Title and have a playoff birth. In the Big XII most are loving the Sooners but the spotlight should be on Bryce Petty, my dark horse to win the Heisman Trophy. Baylor is going to be better than last year and they have the extra motivation from an embarrassing BCS loss to Central Florida. The bottom line is if they run the table they're in and they've got a good shot at doing that. I like the Duck's D to prevail in the National Championship over Baylor for this year's College Football Crown.
