Big Ten Predictions: Leaders Division Power Rankings

Big Ten Leaders Division Power Rankings The Big Ten, which is made up of 12 teams, will now have divisional play. The Legends and Leaders divisional nicknames haven’t been popular with the fan base, but it will definitely be exciting to see how divisional play (and the addition of Nebraska) changes the landscape in the Big Ten. Let’s take a look at my power rankings for the Big Ten’s Leaders Division.

2011 Big Ten Leaders Division Power Rankings 1. Wisconsin Badgers- The Badgers are my favorite to win the Big Ten Championship in 2011. All offseason the team had one major problem, they needed a quarterback. Russell Wilson, one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, fell into their laps this spring. I think Wilson will prove a tremendous addition to this offense. The Badgers have the best offensive line and running backs in the conference, and now they should have a good passing game to keep defenses guessing. I don’t think this team will lose any more than a game or two this year.

2. Ohio State Buckeyes- I know it is popular to think that the Buckeyes are going to be terrible this year, but I just don’t see it. This is absolutely a team with a lot of question marks, but they also have a lot of talent. The defense should keep them in almost every game this year. The NCAA problems and the loss of Tressel will definitely hurt this team, but I still see them as the second best team in the Leaders Division.

3. Penn State Nittany Lions- Can the Nittany Lions get quality production out of the quarterback spot? The Nittany Lions defense should be very good this year, and Linebacker U should live up to its name. The team has plenty of talent at wide receiver, but they need to find a quarterback who doesn’t make too many mistakes. I see Penn State being slightly better than last year, but I don’t expect too much from them.

4. Illinois Fighting Illini- Ron Zook’s seat isn’t quite as hot as it was last year, but if he doesn’t at least take the Fighting Illini to another bowl game he might not be around next season. Scheelhaase is an underrated quarterback, and I expect him to have a nice career. Illinois has a great secondary as well. The Fighting Illini will benefit from a very easy schedule. Don’t be surprised if they are better than most expect.

5. Purdue Boilermakers- Danny Hope can only hope that the Boilermakers are able to stay healthier than they were last year. Purdue suffered a rash of injuries last year, which led to a disappointing 4-8 finish. Ralph Bolden is back at the tailback spot and the team should be a little better than last year.

6. Indiana Hoosiers- Kevin Wilson will probably do a good job with the Hoosiers, but he will have his hands full this season. The Hoosiers have the worst defense in the Big Ten, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. They also lost some key play makers on the offensive side of the ball. It will be a long year in Bloomington.

I'm 82-59 (58% winners) in the last two college football seasons overall! Looking forward to another profitable season of college football action!
