2016 NFL MVP

By: Frank Jordan     Date: Feb 4, 2017
Print Article

This year the MVP is coming down to quarterbacks. Yes, Elliot had a good year for Dallas but he is going to get Rookie of the Year and possibly 5-10% consideration for MVP. The MVP race is coming down to four quarterbacks; Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr. All of these quarterbacks had between 28-40 touchdown passes and over 3,500 passing yards and lead their teams to the playoffs. Brady's big mark was only throwing two interceptions and having great numbers in just 12 games, with that said the team went 3-1 without him so the system is in place to succeed in New England. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers were struggling at 4-6 and Rodgers said he thought the Packers could run the table and win the division which they did. He threw 40 TD passes which was the best in the league and just 7 interceptions. Matt Ryan was second in passing yards behind Brees and second in passing touchdowns to Rodgers in leading the Falcons to the division and conference crown. My choice for MVP if I had a vote is Derek Carr who put up nearly 4,000 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions in 14.5 games. The main argument for Carr is how bad the Raiders did after his injury getting crushed by Denver in the final week of the year losing the division crown then getting dominated by Houston in the playoffs. This shows how valuable Carr was to the team, but it will get lost when Matt Ryan is awarded the MVP. Matt Ryan is well deserved for his big time numbers: being second in yards, third in completion percentage, second in touchdown passes, single digit interceptions, and first in quarterback rating. Your 2016 NFL MVP is Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons!
