Ok, let's get the obvious behind us. Kent St. has lost 3 straight games. Whew...now that I said it, let's take a look at those last 3 games. They were losses to Kansas(60-87), Texas A&M(71-77), and Illinois(63-69). They were in it till the final few minutes in both the Texas A&M and Illinois games, and were obviously overpowered against Kansas. Pretty good competition if you ask me.

Senior Guard Ali Fisher leads the way for the Golden Flashes. He is averaging 19 points and 3.3 assists per game. He was the MAC Player of the Year last season, and is on a pace to get it a second year in a row. The Golden Flashes have been getting excellent play from the guard position resulting in just 11 turnovers per game. As a team they are shooting 47% from the field, while holding opponents to 34% from the field in their home games.

St. Mary's comes in with a 5-1 record, but have yet to play a true road game this season. They played their first 3 games at home, before playing on a neutral court in the 76 Classic this past weekend. The Gaels are led by Sophomore Guard Patrick Mills who is averaging 20 points and 4.2 assists per game. These two schools met back in February, with Kent St. taking a road win over the Gaels by a 65-57 score. This one is just too easy to pass up, especially with Kent St. nearly even and at home.

This is another one of those games that has a couple of interesting facts. Of the utmost interest to us is the fact that Cleveland St. is 9-2 against the spread vs Butler dating back to 1997. You might also be interested to know that in those 11 games Butler was always the favorite, in some cases giving up double digit spreads, even when on the road. Now the good part. Butler is 17-6 straight up against Cleveland St. dating back to 1997. This 17-6 straight up record vs Cleveland St. is very important, especially since Butler is actually getting points in this game. This is the first time this has happened dating back before 1997.

So, is Butler actually a bad team this year? Their 5-0 record don't give any indication that they are struggling. They have wins over Drake, Ball St., Northwestern, and Evansville, all pretty decent schools. They have three players sharing the wealth. Matt Howard(13 PPG), Gordon Hayward(12 PPG), and Shelvin Mack(12 PPG) all are contributing offensively, while Howard leads the team with 6 rebounds per game.

The true reason Butler is getting points in this game is because of the early success of Cleveland St. The Vikings have jumped out to a 5-2 record behind the play of Senior Forward J'Nathon Bullock who is averaging 16 points a game. The Vikings two losses came against Washington and Kansas St., and have wheeled off 4 straight victories since the Kansas St. loss. Tonight we find out just how good this Cleveland St. team is.
