World Series Preview and Prediction

By: Frank Jordan     Date: Oct 19, 2011
Print Article

St. Louis vs. Texas was an unlikely scenario to be the World Series match up, but they earned their way here on the strengths of a solid line up and quality arms out of the bullpen. Texas beat Tampa Bay in four games in their ALDS match up and had a 3-1 lead against Detroit and ended needing six games to advance winning the ALCS showdown. St. Louis has just been hot the last two months with a crazy September getting into the playoffs on the last day of the year only to be facing the heavy favored Philadelphia Phillies. Not only did they force a game five in their NLDS match up, but they shut out the powerful Phillies behind Chris Carpenter 1-0. In the NLCS they hooked back up with division rival Milwaukee. In the regular season these two teams were pretty evenly matched splitting 18 games with similar stats in those match ups. St. Louis won two games in Milwaukee in the series, despite the Brewers having the best home record in all of baseball, closing things out in six games.

Neither team has the best of starting pitching, but St. Louis does have the ace in Carpenter however he is a little nicked up. Both teams have a solid line up and plenty of arms to come out of the pen to throw a 1-2-3 inning or get out of a jam. The team that wins the battle of the bullpen vs. the other team’s offense will win this series because there were very few wins by starting pitchers in the 8 wins for these teams in the LCS’s and the last thing either manager wants to do is give away a game because they left their starter in too long.

Prediction for the series is St. Louis in 7 as they alternate exciting and tight games throughout the series. Enjoy the action and as always be a winner!!
