Game of the week
Giants (6-2) over Patriots (5-3), 24-20; In Foxboro, where the mighty New England Patriots fear no man or beast, but one. Eli Manning, again. After Eli’s brazen words awhile back about being an elite QB in the NFL, many scoffed and went about their way, thinking it just gibberish coming from the dopey faced “aw shucks” southern boy, Eli has 5 comeback wins this season alone. This says 2 things, the Giants are essentially a 1-7 team, or Eli really is much better than people give him credit for. From 0-0 halftime, to an thrilling edge of your seat game to finish, great stuff into the last 15 ticks left on the clock.
Upset of the week
Dolphins (1-7) over Chiefs (4-4), 31-3; It’s not the fact that the Chiefs are so good and amazing, that they got beat, it’s a few things. It was certainly not the kind of performance expected at home against a winless team. Firstly, this is my upset game because the Dolphins, who came into the game scoring 15/game, pumped out 31 against a decent defensive team that over the last 3 games had only allowed an average of 15/game, including a shutout. Mixed with the fact that the Dolphins were winless, and you go into Kansas City and smack the Chiefs around like they are a Jr. Varsity team, is pretty tremendous stuff.
NFL POW (PLAYER OF THE WEEK)
Matt Moore, (QB, Miami Dolphins) 17-23 244 YDs, 3 TDs. Matt Moore, who has had his share of ups and downs. (More downs than ups), came into Sundays game with numbers that were far from impressive. 1 TD, 4 INTs and 58% passing. Goes on the road, and lights up the Chiefs secondary which has some solid players in Brandon Flowers and Kendrick Lewis. Great game, leading the Dolphins to their first win on the season.
Honorable mentions; Willis McGahee, 20 carries for 163 YDs, 8.2 avg, 2 TDs, DeMarco Murray, 22 carries for 139 YDs, Vincent Jackson, 7 catches for 141 YDs, 3 TDs, James Harrison, 3 sacks, a forced fumble and 8 tackles, and how about Patrick Peterson, his 2nd consecutive week with a punt return, this one, winning the game with a 99 YD punt return.
NFL Stock watch;
Stock rising; Houston Texans RBs. Arian Foster, right? How about Ben Tate. The Houston RBs have been tearing up the NFL for 3 straight weeks now. Foster with 351 YDs and 4 TDs, Tate with 261 YDs 1 TD. Double bagged the Browns on Sunday, running for a combined 239 YDs, and a sickening 8/avg.
Stock dropping; Philip Rivers. I know, he’s Philip Rivers and he’s a real good QB. He’s also struggled terribly this season. He may be 5th in yards passing, but he’s also 1st in interceptions with 14. 7 TDs and 8 picks over the last 5 games. Rivers has to get himself together for his team.
Hard-hitting matchups this week to watch for; Raiders (4-4) at Chargers (4-4) (In the awful AFC West, these 2 mediocres battle it out for the lead) Giants (6-2) at 49ers (7-1) (The test continues for the Giants in their rough stretch, and a test for the Niners at where they are at in the league) Steelers (6-3) at Bengals (6-2) (Can Dalton lead the Bengals beyond the Steelers D?) Patriots (5-3) at Jets (5-3) (Belichick, Ryan…always good stuff here, even if both teams may be slightly overrated at this time.) Saints (6-3) at Falcons (5-3) (Atlanta has to step it up, the Saints want to reclaim the division as theirs with authority.)
