Wednesday August 5th, 2009 Probable Pitchers Hot and Cold

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:

J.A. Happ(Phillies)

Happ has surprised many this year, but I'm more impressed with what Randy Well has done for the Chicago Cubs. Happ will go up another impressive lefty in Jorge De La Rosa who is 4-0 in his last 5 starts with a 3.21 ERA and the Rockies are 7-0 in his last 7 starts. If you check out our live sports odds I think you will see that the Phillies who opened at -153 will continue to rise because they are 15-6 in their last 21 home starts vs. LHP.

Not only have the Phillies beat up on left handed starters, the Rockies have struggled averaging just .215 and 3.54 runs per 9 innings on the road this year vs. LHP. They lose all their pop vs. LHP and that is due to the struggles of Garret Atkins who has been benched since Tracy took over as manager.

Do not get too excited about the Phillies Happ has struggled at home with a 4.47 ERA compared to his 1.72 ERA on the road. Also something to consider is the Rockies who have over a short sample (last 5 games) hit LHP with a .316avg and 6.60 runs per 9 innings. If you must have my sports betting advice I'd say pass on this one especially when the value is not in our favor.

The Mets have really struggled here and it is unfortunate they have to go up against a pitcher they have struggled against with their ace in Johna Santana going tomorrow. The Cardinals are 10-2 in their last 12 vs. NL East with Pineiro on the mound. I expect big things from Pineiro again as he has pitched great at Citi Field a true pitcher's ball park.

Rich Harden (Cubs)

Cubs are 6-0 in the last 6 meetings with the Reds, while the Reds are playing their worst baseball. Rich Harden will take the mound and he's really picked it up with a 2.48 ERA in his last 5 starts. I watched his last game against the Reds and he was simply dominant with un-hittable stuff. He went 6 innings gave up 1H and 1ER.

The Reds have a career .118 average in 68 AB vs. Harden and when you take out Bruce who won't be in this game 2-6 they have a 0.97 average. The line on this game has already exploded from -150 to -178 as the Reds have lost 8 straight games and carry a .188 average scoring 3.18 runs per 9 innings against LHP. Reds are 6-21 in their last 28 as an underdog and 13-3 in their last 16 of a game 3 in a series. I really see the Cubs beating up on the Reds here today and for Harden to continue his solid 2.19 ERA on the road this year! If you can eat -173 juice do it because the Cubs will win!

Notables - Last 5 Starts!

* Edwin Jackson (1-1, 1.50 WHIP, 3.16 ERA)

Most likely to sustain and win:

Rich Harden

Probable Cold Starting Pitchers:

David Price (Rays)

Price has struggled with a 6.94 ERA over his last 5 starts for Tampa but he'll face the Red Sox who lost again on carpet last night on a walk off from Evan Longoria. Red Sox are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings with TB, and 12-28 in their last 40 games on turf. They will have an excellent shot at winning the game here against Price as they have beaten up on LHP this year and on the road they have a .291 average scoring 6.43 runs per 9 innings.

Only catch is only one batter has seen David Price and that would be Victor Martinez 0-2. Price despite his high ERA has been dominant at home with a 2.67ERA. His high 6.94 ERA over last 5 starts is all part of his 6,4, and 6ER performances on the road @Bluejays, White Sox, and Rangers. I expect him to continue to pitch well at home against a Boston team that has not seen him which should take at least one trip through the lineup before they develop a strategy.

Price will go up against Penny who has a 7.17 ERA in his last three starts. Look for the Rays to get back into this race and pull within 3.5 games of the Rays. If the Rays can get the sweep they have a chance to get even closer with the Red Sox visiting the Yankees over the weekend. I think this division is going to fall into one of the most exciting pennant chases with the Wild Card also coming from these three.

Notables - Last 5 Starts!

* Jeremy Guthrie (1-3, 1.40 WHIP, 6.16 ERA) * Doug Davis (2-2, 2.03 WHIP, 6.20 ERA)

Most likely to rebound:

David Price
