US Open Tennis Play – Since golf has gone so very well this year having had 5 of 6 winning cards, I decided to put my research to the test and get in on the tennis action. I will be releasing golf selections fro this week’s Fed-Ex Cup tournament Wednesday so be sure to get down on that one as well. Remember, in the last event I released, the PGA Tournament, I correctly won with YE Yang and it paid 16 to 1! In many ways, this tournament is like looking at the PGA with different names attached. Federer is Woods and then there are the also rans. Unlike golf, however, where Tiger has been largely inconsistent, Federer truly has no rival and there is no one that can defeat him except himself. I think playing him to win at 1 to 1 is nice opportunity. I also like Juan Martin Del Potro at 12 to 1 as a bit of a sleeper. He is from Argentina and ranked 6th best in the world rankings. n August 2008, he became the first player in ATP history to win his first four career titles in as many tournaments. He also completed the second longest winning streak in 2008, and the second longest by a teenager in the open era, behind Rafael Nadal — with his winning sequence spanning 23 matches over five tournaments. Since then, he has made quarter-final appearances at the 2008 US Open and 2009 Australian Open and a semi-final appearance at the 2009 French Open, in addition to reaching the latter stages of a number of Masters 1000 events. In head to head matchups today, play on Simone Bolellit at +230 over Radek Stepanek.; Dmitry Tursunov over Marc Gicquel at +150. I don’t see any solid opportunities on the woman’s side. One thing that does stick out is the public’s lack of confidence in number 1 seed Safina, who is 10 to 1. Granted, her play, especially service games, give the public reason to dismiss her as a contender. But, she is ranked number 1 and for good reason so playing her to win at 10-1 is an attractive wager. Sharapova is also another solid opportunity at 10-1. In sum, the woman’s tennis is perhaps the weakest in a decade and this could be one of the worst TV ratings for woman’s action in many years. So, as a third option, I like taking “the field” at 7 to 1 to liven up public interest in this great US event.
