A look at the hot and cold pitchers going today. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests. Monday's hot and cold starters does not feature many hot starters as it is mostly cold. We have just 2 starters with ERA's under 3.00 in their last 5 starts and we have a total of 4 starters going with an ERA over 6 in their last 5 starts.
Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:
Cliff Lee (Phillies)
Cliff Lee has been dominant since joining the Phillies. He is 4-0 in his 4 starts with the Phillies with a 0.81 ERA throwing two complete games. More and more it is looking like Cliff Lee was a steal for the Phillies as Lee has put up MVP numbers since coming to the Phillies. I realize it is a small sample and he'll face the New York Mets in a day start.
The Mets have never faced Cliff Lee before besides Castillo and Sheffield with their time in the AL and they are a combined 8 for 30 against him. Lee will make the day start where he has not pitched as well as the night with a 3.55 ERA in 11 starts. However, he is 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA during the day since coming over to the Phillies. Although the Mets have been solid hitting as of late they still have far too many holes in their lineup to beat an ace like Lee. Mets are one of the better day teams but they are 3-10 in their last 13 vs. left handed starter.
Notables - Last 5 Starts!
* Barry Zito (2-1, 1.12 WHIP, 2.51 ERA)
Most likely to sustain and win:
Cliff Lee
Probable Cold Starting Pitchers:
Vin Mazzaro (A's)
Mazzaro has been a main stay on the cold pitching list unfortunately and he is back here today facing the Mariners out on the west coast against another cold starter in Ian Snell. Mazzaro has pitched pretty consistently on the road and at home, night and day with an ERA just over 5 in all 4 situations.
However, he will face the Mariners for the first time ever which gives the advantage to him at least the first time through the lineup. You should know that Mazzaro has not gone longer than 6 innings in more than 10 starts. The last time he went longer than 6 innings was June 7th. What does this mean? It means that this game will likely come down to the bullpen more than it will have to do with the starting pitching and the A's have a 5.02 ERA in their last 5 games. I would just stay away from this game as the sports betting line has Mariners as favorites at -120 then moving to -115 despite the public being on them at 77%.
Notables - Last 5 Starts!
* Collin Balester (1-2, 1.61 WHIP, 6.85 ERA)
* Gil Meche (2-2, 2.05 WHIP, 6.39 ERA)
* Ian Snell (1-1, 1.74 WHIP, 6.63 ERA)
Most likely to rebound:
Ian Snell
