by Freddy Wills
A look at the hot and cold pitchers going today. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests. Make sure you check me out tonight on Picks & Parlays radio show starting at 7pm. Click here for live feed.
Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:
Javier Vazquez (Atlanta Braves)
Vazquez keeps proving me wrong with a 2.98ERA on the season that he continues to lower. He's got a 2.38 ERA in his last 5 starts and continues to be consistent on the road (3.17 ERA) and at home (2.82ERA). He will face the free swinging Florida Marlins who have a .270 average against him in limited at bats (63).
Atlanta is 5-1 in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning record and they continue to hit the ball with a .283 avg against RHP in their last 5 and they are scoring more than 7 runs over their last 10 vs. RHP.
John Lester (Boston Red Sox)
John Lester keeps pitching well. You'd see where is his motivation the way he keeps pitching 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA in his last 5 outings. Well I just think he found some for Thursday afternoon as he will face the A's who got to him in an April start getting 10 Hits and 6ER over 6IP off him. This was when Lester was really struggling, hence his 3.76ERA on the season which should be much lower.
Oakland has a .232 average in less than 100AB against Lester most of that coming from Orlando Cabrera 6-13. Lester has a 3.06 ERA at home 4.52 away. During the day/night he is basically the same. I would not follow this game to be honest because I have been dead wrong on the A's. I keep saying they are going to be left with a hole in the line up when they lost Holliday but again tonight they put up 5 runs in the 1st inning off the Red Sox so no thanks from me.
Notables - Last 5 Starts!
* Jorge De La Rosa (4-0, 1.04 WHIP, 2.43 ERA)
* Jonathan Sanchez (1-1, 0.65 WHIP, 3.13ERA)
Most likely to sustain and win:
Javier Vazquez
Probable Cold Starting Pitchers:
Johny Cueto (Cincinnati Reds)
Cueto has not had a quality start over his last month. The last one came on July 1st. The problem has been the long ball for him. Over his last 4 starts he gave up 5 HR. In his last 5 starts he owns a 7.61 ERA which has ballooned his ERA up to 3.78.
SD does not have much success 3-14 as a team, but that was obviously in limited appearances. Don't judge SD based on what I had said about them as of late they are the worst hitting team in the league but the bats are starting to come alive as Gonzalez went yard last night. That is when it is dangerous to fade the Padres.
Notables - Last 5 Starts!
* Gio Gonzalez (2-1, 1.73 WHIP, 7.59 ERA)
* Andy Pettitte (1-3, 1.29 WHIP, 5.52 ERA)
Most likely to rebound:
None of the above!
