When a team is considering making a trade, pulling the trigger on that deal, to pick up the missing piece to their team, And of course, to hopefully bring them to the next level to compete for a title.
Looking at what your team needs and who is out there to fill the spots needed to bring you to that next level. Of course, no one wants to pull the trigger on the trade that tears a team apart either, end up with more regrets than triumph. Because sometimes the best modification to make during the trade season is just maybe the trade you don’t make.
But there were quite a few good moves I saw in the NBA recently, some teams trying to stock up and make a sprint at the playoffs. Time to immediately get team chemistry settled in and make it work…now. But with the season 67% over the time is now, let’s take a look at the moves I felt were the most interesting and why.
The Golden State Warriors picking up Richard Jefferson from the San Antonio Spurs. But not only did they get a talented SF, who still can play and fit in to what will be expected from him, but they also got a pick in the draft this year, which is pretty stocked with talent.
Jefferson was losing playing time with the Spurs, so it doesn’t really harm them as their team is led by Parker going in a different direction without Jefferson. Jefferson could give them a starter at the 3 for another 2-3 years, with Lee and Curry gaining most double teams; they now will be able to get him more open shots from the floor. And for Warriors fans, they should be happy they don’t have a team made up of 10 guards. The move shows that the Warriors, who presently are 4 games out of playoff race, are trying to get to the next stage now, good sign for the Warriors and their fans.
The Los Angeles Clippers picking up SG Nick Young. Love this move for “Lob-city.” The 6-7 guard can open up the court with his 3- point shooting game which has always been strong. He’s just 26 years old, which means he can develop for the Clips. It also gives LA another outlet for CP3 to dump the ball to when driving. They now have a very effective backcourt that can pick it up on the off chance Blake is down. This was a steal for the Clippers, in my opinion. A first-rate 3rd scoring option, which I think should easily give them 17/night, and upgrade from Randy Foye without a doubt.
The move I liked was a very appealing move many weren’t fond of, Gerald Wallace going to New Jersey. I don’t see this as a bad move at all. Wallace is a good player who is a play hard, play defense, durable rebounding forward and can score the ball well at the SF spot. Again, seriously, DeShawn Stevenson was their starting SF.
Upgrade.
Obviously they want to keep Deron Williams, with a team that could potentially have a lineup of Lopez, solid scoring Center, Wallace, scoring defender, Humphries, rebounder and defender, Williams, all-star, and rookie MarShon Brooks, the Nets certainly look like they can have a competitive team shortly. The key of course is Williams in this; he needs to believe this team can be successful soon. I think it was a great move and Williams should stay, especially when they move to Brooklyn. They pulled together a trade at the last minutes and did a satisfactory job with grabbing Wallace.
