The 2010 season has been again, stimulating. Never are sports fans left without anything to say after a season in the sport of your choice. All sports fans look forward to their respective season after the current ones end. Some hope for better ones, some hope for continued dominance.
This year, in 2010, we have seen some of our favorite teams fall apart at the seams, UFC begin to climb to a superior level than traditional boxing, the warrior, Brett Favre holding on longer than he ever should have.
The dynamic Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA championship, as they look to be a threepeat champion again, already a 2 time threepeat champion, including when they were the Minneapolis Lakers, would be a feat that would be legendary.
We were all witnesses of the incredible disaster that was “The Decision” back in July, when LeBron James decided to bring his talents to South beach. After a poor start, it appears the gifted Miami Thrice have gotten themselves together and are starting to gel, putting up 101/game, And giving up only 92/game good for 1st in the NBA.
In NASCAR, we saw “Superman” Jimmie Johnson win his 5th consecutive Sprint Cup Series Championship in a row, which really is astonishing.
The College games were no different. As the 14–0 Alabama won the BCS game in big time fashion, beating Texas, 37-21, without their star QB Colt McCoy, who got hurt on the first possession.
The women’s NCAA basketball team Connecticut, currently has set a record at an astounding 89 consecutive wins.
Rookie PG John Wall has taken the NBA by storm, scoring 17 a game and dealing 9 assists a game. Another player, after missing his rookie season with injury, Blake Griffin has been first-rate, getting his chance to shine, with 21 ppg and grabbing 12 boards a game.
March madness was tremendous with Duke beating beloved underdog, Butler, holding on with baited breath as throwback forward Gordon Hayward chucked up a Hoosier like 45 footer, to see it bang off the rim and their championship hopes crash to the ground, losing 61-59.
We heard the droning sound of a swarm of bees of the vuvuzelas throughout the FIFA championship.
We watched at (should be) future Hall of Fame QB, Kurt Warner retire after an first-rate 12 year career
Number one pick, Sam Bradford from the 2010 draft has been magnificent, putting up over 3000 yards and bringing his team to a potential division title in his first season. Showing he can play the game at the next level.
The 2010 winter Olympics were remarkable, held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, as the United States won an overall tops, 37 medals, including 9 gold. We sat and lamented as luger Nodar Kumaritashvili was tragically killed during a training run for his competition.
Tiger Woods struggled horribly during the 2010 golf season; we watched his lifeless apology, when he broke his silence after his episode with his now ex wife Elin Nordegren.
Tennis star, Rafael Nadal won the biggest tennis tournament of them all at Wimbledon this year, defeating Tomas Berdych, in 3 sets, for his 2nd Wimbledon championship in the last 3 years.
The San Francisco Giants won the MLB World Series, against the Texas Rangers 4-1. Led by Edgar Renteria’s smoking bat, who hit for .412 and team leading 6 RBI. The Giants won their 1st championship in the last 56 years.
It has been without a doubt, yet another exciting, motivational, frustrating year in sports. And we will all wait for 2011 and see what is brought with the new seasons; will we have an NFL or an NBA? We can certainly hope.
Oh, and by the way, Brett Favre flip flopped during the offseason…again.
