PAC 10 Conference Preview
USC (12 returning starters)- All Pete Carroll does is sit back and reload every year. We will see how deep the Trojans are this year with road games at Notre Dame, Cal and Ohio State. Big game early September 12th at Ohio State. A big revenge game for the Buckeyes at home. An early indicator for both clubs.
CAL (15 returning starters)- Cal is in a good spot as USC may be a bit "down" from previous standards. They also get the Trojans at home. HC Jeff Tedford has done a good job in Berkeley but the natives are getting restless. Cal must run the table early to get to USC undefeated on October 3rd. RB Jahvid Best and QB Kevin Riley bring firepower to an offense that also returns its top 2 receievers from last year.
UCLA (16 returning starters)- HC Rick Neuheisel's bunch will be vastly improved this season. OC Norm Chow will have this talented offense ready for a rematch of their game last year against Tennessee. An improved passing game will make things a bit easier for a good defense that features a solid linebacker corp and secondary.
Oregon State (10 returning starters) - HC Mike Riley's bunch brings back just 10 starters, but the big boys are in the offensive backfield. The Rodgers brothers, led by Jacquizz and his near 1300 yards last year who will balance out QB Lyle Moevao. An early non-conference test vs Cincinnati on September 19th will be a good test for the Beavers.
Oregon (9 returning starters) - Chip Kelly enters his first year as HC after being the OC. Bellotti takes it upstairs. The O won't slip much as 1000 yard rusher Garrette Blount returns. QB Jeremiah Masoli will look to improve and take his game to the next level. Ducks get a quick test out of the gate going to Boise on September 3rd. We don't see a 10 win season, but they should get to their 5th straight bowl game.
Stanford (17 returning starters)- Year 3 of the Jim Harbaugh era or error. Now is the time for a step up. Cardinal have RB Toby Gerhart back. We feel the Cardinal get to a bowl game for the first time since 2001.
Arizona (13 returning starters)- HC Mike Stoops is breaking in a new QB but have a solid D. You are going to have to put up points in this conference. Opposing teams will stack the line to stop RB Nic Grigsby. It's about QB play, and the Wildcats don't have the bullets for the shoot out.
Washington (18 returning starters)- Huskies have 18 starters back from a team that went 0-12. How the hell can it get worse.
Arizona State (13 returning starters)- Sun Devils break in a new QB. Off a disappointing season, ASU will look to stop the streakiness that plagued them last season. 2W 6L 3W 1L. HC Dennis Erickson enters year 3 of his program and probably likes his solid D more than his offense.
Washington State (15 returning starters)- Cougars do bring back their top RBs adn QBs from last year. If you consider a QB who tossed 11 picks with no TDs something to be happy about. The talent level is just not in Pullman and they are still at least 2 years away from respectablity.
