If those of you remember, Terrelle Pryor was first tossed out of the frying pan and into the fire as a true freshman last season on the road in Game 3 in a 35-3 loss at Southern Cal. Head Coach Jim Tressel elected to bench Senior QB Todd Boeckman after throwing 2 interceptions in favor of the 6'6' 235-pounder who led Jeanette High School in western Pennsylvania to a PIAA Class AA football championship. It's strange how a guy that close to home would overlook another Big Ten power like Penn State after being endorsed by his dad. Why? Because Terrelle Pryor is not country and never will be. So how did he handle playing Penn State the second time around after a 13-6 setback back at "The Shoe" last season? He did better because Jim Tressel let him loose similar to the way he ran the offense back at Jeannette. Interesting enough was the move pulled by Penn State Marketing Association president Dan Sturman. He woke up a sleeping giant by selling $10 T-shirts before the game picturing the Nittany Lion mascot handing Pryor a tissue with the inscription, "Terrelle Cryer" on them. Whether Ohio State haters admit it or not, Pryor remains an electrifying and tremendously gifted athlete who can immediately break a busted play into a big gainer. Apparently it seems U.S.C. played Ohio State at the right time of the season. I don't think they would be able to work that same magic this time of the season.
I think Pryor handled the big-time boos he received after the Buckeyes got upset by Purdue 26-18 back on October 17th quite well. After throwing 2 interceptions and loosing 2 fumbles, some QB's would fall into a hole by pressing similar to Todd Boeckman's situation last year. He also knows redshirt sophomore Joe Bauserman is waiting in the wings if he can't handle the pressures in the limelight of this Big Ten dynasty. It also nice to know that Pryor has taken the initiative to be mentored by LeBron James of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.
Pryor now has the chance of finishing the regular season 10-2 with a victory over Big Ten rival Michigan. He's earned the right for a trip to Pasadena & the Rose Bowl to prove he can beat the Pac-10. It would have been justice if it was against U.S.C., but it's looking more like Oregon or Stanford. If Jim Tressel is successful implementing an offense where Terrelle Pryor has the option to thrive, the Buckeyes will stay a Top Ten power for at least next season.
