College Football Betting Preview Ohio University at Ohio State University Saturday September 18, 2010 Ohio State -31 1/2 - Total N/A In this week’s edition of the AP Poll, Alabama and Ohio State remained first and second respectively in the wake of their convincing victories. The gap between this pair and number three Boise State widened, but there are still many games to be played and the teams in this Poll will arrange themselves every week based on their respective performances. Ohio State will take on a vastly inferior foe in Ohio University this week set to start at Noon EST and will be televised by the Big Ten Network. While ranked second in the AP Poll, Ohio State has won eight straight games. Their win over Miami was not a work of art with several sloppy plays. Terrelle Pryor did not do anything to help improve his Heisman chances going 12 for 27 for 233 passing yards. His running was impressive and kept several drives alive with third down runs. Yet, this game was still very close in the third quarter. Miami took the second half kickoff trailing 26-17 and drove to the Ohio State six yard line. The next play was an interception that Ohio State took back to the Miami 20 yard line and the rally was over. Three of the four interceptions could have easily been caught by Miami receivers. This game was far closer than the final score indicates. Ohio University is coming off a humiliating home loss to MAC foe Toledo 20-13 and were installed as 10 point favorites. Toledo did a great job keeping the ball away from the Ohio offense and had a nine minute edge in time of possession. Their quarterback, Austin Dantin went 12 for 15 gaining 102 yards, but had two interceptions. Ohio’s quarterback went 17 for 27 gaining 137 yards, but had three interceptions and one touchdown. Ohio’s offense may have trouble scoring even a field goal in this game. Coming off a game where they lost straight up and now having to face the second ranked team in the nation is not a good situation to build on. It is quite reasonable to see Ohio scoring fewer than 14 points and gaining less than 2 1/2 yards per carry. Ohio State has a high probability of scoring 28 or more points. Note that in past games Ohio State is a perfect 9-0 ATS when they allow 14 or less points over the last 2 seasons; 6-0 ATS (+6.0 when they allow less than 2.5 rushing yards per attempt over the last 3 seasons; 8-1 ATS when they score 28 or more points over the last 2 seasons. Moreover, Ohio State is 9-0 ATS after a game where they forced 3 or more turnovers over the last 2 seasons. For those of you looking at Ohio University here is a first half play for your consideration. This supporting system has produced a 33-10 ATS mark for 77% winners since 2000. Play on dogs of 17.5 or more points using the first half line after a game where they committed 4 or more turnovers. Ohio State does not have a ‘look ahead’ game after this intra-state game with Ohio so it is extremely difficult to see Ohio able to compete with the Buckeyes on any level.
